So, first I want to stress that this is from my experience on a closed course!

Does this truck have nanny software? That's what we call it in sportbikes that are electronically restricted for "your safety". I opened it up yesterday and at about 115 mph the power seemed to hit a wall, like it was restricted. There was still power on tap, just all of a sudden fell on it's face. Just curious if that has been anyone's experience as well.

Why would you want to go faster than 115? I'd be worried about going over 100 in mine. I'm sure there's a top speed limiter, I'd be surprised if there's any vehicles in the US without some type of limit.

I don't, I was just curious. If there are cars with top speed limiters, then it's a brand new thing. My sisters 2011 Audi A6 goes 140 easy, and no one is buying a Corvette Zr1 that doesn't go 150+, that's for sure.

Not to mention my 2006 FZ1000 which goes 150 in a heartbeat.

doesn't take these things long to get up to 100+

OP, yes, there is a speed limiter. don't know the exact number, but it's somewhere between 115 and 120. it's a tacoma speciffic limiter. other cars have different limits set. new f150s are set at 100. others are set much higher

I'm basing that on the fact that every motorcycle sold in the us has a limit of no more than 180.

As for the time to get to 100, I wouldn't think it'd be too long. I used to work on a survey crew and our suburban loaded with survey equipment could reach it's top speed of 100 relatively easily. When it got to that top speed things just cut out, you could feel the motor just stop pulling immediately.

It's definitely not a new thing, and is definitely not specific to Tacomas or Toyota.

Exactly... certainly don't need Bonneville Salt Flats to go over the C-note.

Here in the Northeast there are people that go to work in heavy traffic doing 100! I do 80 just to keep from not getting run down and get passed like I am standing still at least 5 times in my 30 mile highway commute. People are goddamn crazy.

I am impressed the limit is at 115! My Duramax would shutdown at 97 MPH....

Apparently you don't watch top gear, most high end sports car / supercar manufacturers have mutually agreed to limit all their cars at 155 mph from the factory

Oh! You are a motorcyclist? You do know where that originates, yes? This is not mandated, it's a manufacturer "gentlemens agreement" to not publish or advertise any motorcycle to be capable of more than 186mph.

Ahhh, same as the motorcycle manufacturers like I posted above. I don't watch Top Gear- or much TV.

I don't have any plans to drive that fast. I am curious as to how much control you had of the Tacoma when you were traveling at those speeds. Did you outfit her with racing tires?

There was no turning involved, straight line course. Tracked well, felt solid. Stock tires on the TRD OR which I am sure are not H rated tires or anything- definitely not recommended with those tires.

All of those cars are running Z rated tires and everything about them is made to go fast. Obviously a 4x4 truck is not made to be a racecar. I'm also surprised the limit is that high.

this is just flat out wrong. there is no agreements when it comes to supercars. If anything it's the opposite, they are all trying to outdo each other. they might be limited, but it is much higher than 155 and varies by how capable the vehicle is.

That's what I thought! I know for a fact the Audi R8 is gonna walk past 155 mph. Probably do 155 with half the plug wires taken off- it's a 200mph+ car. It may be an expensive and exclusive supercar, but it's a production vehicle nonetheless.

this is somewhat wrong. although the super cars are not limited the sport sedans are the xf-r the m5 the rs4 all those car company have "gentleman agreements" to limit it at that but then again porbably justa fuse or quick override that you get by pass.

There is a way to disable it. I did it and couldn't get much more out of it anyway. This picture was taken in Germany, on the autobahn, driving with one finger. They handle ok at speed, even on mud tires. I frequently hit triple digits in the dirt, and it handles fine. For the record, it shuts off at exactly 112 indicated. With 33's that works out to somewhere near 120, about as fast as it will go without a supercharger.
