unbolt driveshaft flange, unbolt 3rd, take off wheels, unbolt hubs, pull our axles a few inches, pull out 3rd. repeat in reverse.

new axle requires: unbolt driveshaft, take off wheels, take off e-brake, take off hydraulic lines, unbolt from leaf springs, take off diff breather tube if relocated, and then swap over the brakes if the new axle doesn't have them.

edit: also have to remove and reinstall the wheel speed sensors and attach those wires to the new axle.

i haven't taken my rear axle apart yet, so i'm not sure about this aspect, but unless you need to remove a brake line to access the hub bolts, you shouldn't have to open up the rear break lines. not sure how first gens are, but 2nds run two lines from the frame to the axle, so if you unbolt the mounts that hold the hard lines to the axle, you should have plenty of slack

I wouldn't mind going to big bend, I just wouldn't like the drive but if I was going to go I would stay a while, at least 5 days.

I believe it only has one shared mount. I maybe wrong. Anyways you would have to unbolt and bend the hard line to have enough room to pull the axles.

The times I have changed 3rds on anything I just disconnect the brake lines.

mine's cut in half :D couple seconds with the dremel/grinder and bingo. i figured out a nice easy way get the slack needed for aftermarket suspension drop without having to swap out to longer stainless lines

Don't I need some kind of sealant for between the 3rd member and axle housing?
