I have been around quite a few pits and love them! very very friendly dogs! more friendly than our yorkie! We spoil all 3 of our dogs, and yet the yorkie is the only one that can be mean and snap at you. It has bit me and drew a little blood. I have never been around a pit or pit mix and had it show a tooth to me in aggressive manner!

I think all pieces of shit like Mike Vick are bad and have made a good number of this great breed unpredictable.
If I know the owner and the dog I think they are great but if I don't I am always concerned because so many people get them for the wrong reason and teach them bad habits.
By all means its on the owner

    tonneau,
My neighbor has two of them, they had three but one of them bit a young girl and was put down. I don't trust them, as long as they stay on there own property all is good.

My short answer is no, but I think a lot of them are tainted by past generations being bred strictly for aggression. I have a good friend that loved pit bulls, his parents always owned them as did he. Long story short, he had a 6 month old daughter that he left in a room alone with one of his pits while he went upstairs to grab his phone before they left. I'll spare the details but he heard what sounded like a dogfight and came downstairs to find his daughter being attacked by his 5 year old pit. She died a few hours later. His food bowl was in the vicinity but far away from where the attack happened so who knows what triggered it. I've never had a bad experience with a pit bull but there just seems to be something with some of them, the wiring in their brains is off just a bit and something can set it off for some reason. I'm torn on them.

Absolutely not! I have a pit bull myself and show great respect for the breed. She is an amazing dog and very very loving. I get so many compliments how sweet she is. She is fantastic around other dogs and people and children! If anyone has Netflix there is a good documentary on there about the breed and the awful laws in several states against them. I think we should start a picture thread on our dogs!!

    Back in the old Titan..lol

mainly just the owners, but they can go into pack mode along with any other dog or be aggressive just like any other dog.

a friend of mine has a relative with one, we stayed the night in their house and they had a pit, this dog was awesome once he finally decided he wasn't afraid of you and would come see you lol. he did growl a bit when we walked in, but stopped the instant he realized we were friends, seemed like a very loyal dog

I don't think they are all bad, but I do think that there is something in the breed, maybe a strong instinct to hunt and kill, that is easily brought to the surface.

All this talk on how a dog is socialized & trained ....

    Dog gurus, riddle me this...

I have a German Shepherd, raised her from a pup & now @18months she is treated like a member of the family.

She loves my family & inlaws, but......

She is fvcking mean to strangers, bite your ass mean! Acts like she wants to rip somebody apart. Goes ape shit crazy.

I had no idea she would end up like this, nor was she trained to do this.

Had several dogs over the yrs, & never, never one this agreesive toward non
    family members.

That's the thing. Its not just pit bulls. My wife's boss has a German Shepherd that is the most docile, timid dog you've ever met. I think it's the history of your particular dogs breeding. 20 generations of being bred to be the baddest mofo on the block can't be erased by a good owner that treats it well.

Never owned one, but had friends who have. One attacked my girl friend and bit her. Family owned, never abused, perfect little pitbull.

Another was owned by my buddy, almost ripped my retriever into pieces within the first second of seeing it. Again, never happened before to that one. I only need one instance to distrust someone. I was dumb enough to encounter two.
