Did some progress on my tube bender project. I left this aside for a few months, but now I want it done so I can fab some sliders, and maybe a bed structure.

    i will suggest 2 things...

first... square will look trashy as shit on your truck. plain and simple. you can tuck a main square support tube under the body, but a tube should always be what is protruding from the underside of the truck.

    second....

get on google and search a program called sketchup. it is free and is a 3d modeling software. download it and use the engineering template.

    you're welcome.

you could always make a set of fill plates to spruce them up, similar to the rock crushers.

so among closer inspection, they are not fill plates, but you could definitely apply the same design aspects to box tube sliders for a little extra aesthetics

^^^ that could work. i would also say hit your craigslist! someone out there is advertising in the gigs section as a welder or fabricator. just drop them an email and ask if they have a bender with a 1.75" die. if yes, figure out your span on the program, go to them with tube (keeps your markup costs down), and ask them to bend it... go home, weld it up,

    profit.....

Oh young grasshopper watch and be amazed. http://www.bend-tech.com/bt_ez.htm

Bend tech EZ should be plenty for you. Your would waste more tube in a month trying to measure it out then it would cost for bend tech EZ.

when you say it needs to run along the door, do you mean front to back?

if so, a clamp style mount like what thule and yakima use probably won't work. they are very solid, but that's because the bar connecting them across the roof keeps them vertical, but creating side to side rigidity. without that crossbar, you can take those things and easly pull them sideways and right off the roof. also, a clamp that big is a good part of the sind noise. why don't you want to drill holes? a bolt-on mount would be easy to make low profile (a lot less wind noise), and will be stronger. waterproffing holes up there is also very easy.

You want someone to design and build it? Ain't gonna be easy unless someone wantsto do it for fun, shops usually charge from around $90-$120 an hour. The racks you are talking about attach on both sides from what i know, so you would have to have it attached to both sides unless you figure a way to mount it inside the cab, but then your weather stripping wouldn't have a good seal.

    good luck!
