I recently have graduated in XRay and have been putting applications in everywhere around KY possible. This area is hard to find a job in and pays in the lower 10% among states. I've been researching and trying to find a good place to relocate to find a job but haven't had any luck. Anyone else in the field?

Yes. Good luck finding a job, our market has been saturated with techs pumped out from schools over the last 4 - 5 years. I recently transferred from the CCL/Interventional back to general x-ray and it was very tough to get back into x-ray. If you at all would consider relocating for a position, it seems like there are plenty of openings throughout California. Only problem with Cali is, that state sucks donkey dick....and you must have a Cali state Fluoro cert along with your ARRT as well as a venipuncture cert. Also, don't be afraid to apply to positions that you know you don't meet the minimum requirements for. I was in gen x-ray for only a year before I transferred to CCL/Interventional, and on their job posting they stated the minimum requirement was 4 years gen x-ray experience or 1 year CCL experience...yet they still hired me. Doesn't hurt to try....worst they can do is say "thanks for applying but you do not meet our requirements"

If you have any interest in any other modalities, it may help you in finding a position. Some places (the trauma center I work at for instance) will train new techs OTJ for CT and or MR if we are willing to sign a 2 year contract, plus we have to sign a form stating we will get our CT or MR license within a year.

Thanks for all the info! I wouldn't mind at all to relocated but it seems most want to hire close in case they need someone on the spot and won't give me the chance to say I will relocate with an address givin out of state so it seems pretty hard. I also wouldn't mind to cross train on something different like CT. I thought about just going back to school to open up my qualifications with CT, but would like to make a little money to help pay for that extra schooling first. Thanks again for the info!

Here in North Ga the market is saturated. I agree with Infra. Apply for positions that you might not qualify for. You never know. If they know you're eager to learn, they'll train you. Also, as you further your career, the more modalities you're proficient at, the more valuable you are when jobs are scarce.

I think our job market (specifically general x-Ray) is saturated nationwide, not just certain states. Now with that being said, I have found that there are plenty more openings/job postings in certain states versus others. The trend I have noticed is that there are lots of openings/job postings in Texas and California.

Also....don't only apply to positions that state they are FT or PT, apply to per diem positions as well. I initially started off as a per diem employee, once they saw the quality of my work & dedication they created a FT benefitted position for me without asking me if that's what I wanted. Sometimes hard work & dedication does pay off
