I told ya, I like making it harder than it needs to be. Rarely do I opt for the easy line

I'll be able to reply when I'm on a computer (or when I get to class)

I'm also looking at the all pro apex front bumper, I love the way it looks (10x better than the relentless IMO) but I'm worried about the strength, should I be?

I was going to say I don't completely agree with this. Then I realized he was implying this like armor, lift, tires etc. In that case I agree. I hands down think tires should be mod 1, followed by lift, followed by sliders. After that you can kind of go different directions depending on your end goal, but more armor is always a great choice!

I have a front locker and it is amazing how much more capable it makes your rig! I don't think it is quite the jump that a rear locker gives you but it is close. When I go out wheeling my front locker is what helps me keep up with the guys running 37's and up with rear lockers. I always seem to impress them when I take my long wheel base, short rig on 33's almost everywhere they take there crawlers. haha My front locker has a lot to do with it. Just seems to make the front more stable in spots (not really sure how to explain it better).

Meh, I had and have no interest in those switchbacks. I had a great time exploring the eastern end of the beartooths. It is something I had wanted to do since the first time I was in the area. And sharing that day with my buddy was the best.

IMO, ARB is the only real choice with an ADD truck. Even then it only makes a tiny bit of sense if you are regearing the front diff anyway because there is no installation/setup "cost" for the locker when you are already in there regearing.

Yeah, but my point was the extra grip kind of leads to extra stability on things. I don't spin as much on obstacles so I'm not sliding around as much and I don't have to use as much speed because I have more grip. I can't think of quite the right word to describe it. It is just kind of more stable.

fair enough..but now you have to come back and do them :D they really aren't hard at all. the one was tricky, but just need to take it as wide as possible. Joey did it no problem after mark and i botched it.

yea...tell him how many times you have used yours :boink: :D haha

rear steer??? what?? haha :smack: you don't need that. if you can do black bear..you can do Morrison. Black bear was narrower..just imagine like..10x the amount of corners..and a bit tighter corners..

Doesn't look as bad as a crushed stock bumper.
how would it've mad it worse? (just wondering, not questioning)
I'm trying to wheel some, but i don't want to wheel to much until i get slider, which means i gotta get a job, which i'm working on, but it ain't looking hopeful.

And i added up the cost of options for my AP bumper, $1,050 (without powder coat)

If it is a slick surface (fairly muddy for instance) on a cambered hill having lockers can walk the vehicle down the incline. That's why you aren't supposed to use your locker in the snow. It will just break the tires grip and curse it to slide down

Depending on how much camber there was of course.

But you are on the right track. Lift/tires, sliders, bumper is the usual progression. And it certainly isn't cheap!! Stupid hobby is expensive. It'll come in due time. Everyone goes through the same phases with their first truck build. I'm realizing all the noob mistakes I made along the way. Most of that just stems from not having a goal for the truck. If you don't have a goal you end up throwing generic parts at it and you have a generic rig. Once you find that you want to do then the real build begins

Ahh, so as long as it has grip it's fine open, but if it loses traction to the drive wheel then you lock it.

yea in that case..don't even think about lockers yet.

Look at where i go..i have no lockers..only been to one place where one would have been probably required..but sadly..due to the LBJ failure just before it..i didn't even really attempt it for saftely purposes.

And getting out and doing different type of wheeling will really help dial in what you want out of the truck. For all you know, just a basic lift and tires with sliders could make the truck all the capable you want and sticking to rough roads.

Or..you'll want to do some pretty serious crawling and bashing..

    or..go super fast over terrain..

you don't know till you get out and try :)

I had been more or less offroading a lot all my life. But never in anything out side a more or less stock rig with oversized tires. But it never stopped us. You can take your rig MANY places as it is now. You'd be surprised. It will also make you appreciate the armor or shocks or whatever it is you add to the rig, that much more.

I always talk shit to my buddies about not needing a locker on here as im sure many have noticed. But do i want one. You bet your ass i do. I want two. I want to go to the next level. But at the same time, i have learned to pick lines very well..because it was a necessity for me. Would it make wheeling easy? of course. But i will appreciate the lockers that much more when i get them from going for so long without them.

Don't be rushed about getting all the coolest armor and stuff for it. Its expensive man. really expensive. Make sure the money you spend, is going to last as long as possible and take you the places you want. There is no need for the biggest badest truck on TW as fast as possible. You'll get there. its inevitable :p haha

but take your time. Choose wisely, spend your money once and enjoy the living shit out of it.
