Those don't look to skinny for that truck. One question though is with that size tire, do you have to use spacers?

Awesome! My little bro has a 2005 Tacoma and carries a 5-gallon bucket filled with concrete and strapped down in the back to help with the rear end jumping around. I might try something similar (or just go ahead and buy a heavy rear bumper) to see if adding weight in the back helps.

I'm pretty sure the Dakars are on the short list now. I am planning on getting an M419 trailer from a buddy soon (to put a Roof top tent and other camping goodies in / on) and will be towing that about 8 days a month so the Dakars are probably a good fit.

New UCAs go on this weekend. If anyone is bored in the North Austin area on Saturday and wants to help / observe / supervise, PM me. I've got tools, Tacomas (mine and my little bro's) and entirely too much homebrew on tap in the kegerator :D

Tire size is 255/85/R16 on the stock TRD Off-Road wheels. I have spacers on there (added them with the stock tires purely for aesthetics) and left them on.

It's debated whether you need them or not but the general feeling I got from the 255/85 thread (link) was that they aren't necessary and are really only good for looks.

I like how the truck looks with the spacers so I'm leaving them on unless I rub at full stuff (don't rub now at 80% flex). If I do rub, then I'll take 'em off and will let you know for sure.

Awesome, definitely let us know what route you go. I picked mine up on Aug 16, just couldn't wait to get the build going...

The dealership actually messed up my loan paperwork (sent it to the wrong bank, they didn't realize until I called them a million times) so I haven't even paid the first payment yet (first one now scheduled for 11/22). Figured that I could dump the first 3 months of no car payments into upgrades instead :)

I see you have Fireman in your name, are you active duty or volunteer? Either way, huge thanks for your service to the community!

Sounds like it worked out in your favor. :) I'm passing on my 97 Z71 to my daughter who turns 16 in Dec, and have a few things that need some attention. So, that's where my money and focus is right now. It's been lifted since 99, and the UCA bushings are in need of changing.

Many thanks, I'm a paid firefighter with San Antonio.

Quick option for you to consider. Removing the UCA bolt requires bending the inner fender well (sometimes significantly) to get them out... OR you can get new ones at the dealership and cut the heads off the old ones. Reinsert them in the other direction (lower end) and they are never an issue again.

How did the UCA's workout? Did they fix the problem?

Didn't get around to installing the UCA's yet, decided to go camping instead :D I did manage to find some fun places to drive, the front end rubs at full flex & turn but it looks like it's because of the spacers pushing the tires out too far to stuff in cleanly. Going to take those off and see if it still rubs (or if it rubs somewhere else). I'd like to avoid trimming but I'll do what it takes.

Hopefully the UCAs go in later this week or next weekend.

That Baja rack looks sweet! How did removing the spacers and installing the UCA's workout on the handling?

    Thanks!

Spacers didn't make a difference so I put them back on (since I think it looks cooler with them).

I then dropped the tire pressure from 35psi to 28psi and that did wonders.

Haven't installed the UCAs. Since the tire pressure change seems to have helped, I don't know if I'll be installing the UCAs or not. I'll see how it rides during my holiday road trips and then make the call after that.

Sick truck, thoguh I would definitly step up your tire size next time you need some.
255 looks really thin to me, I have 265/70/17 duratracs on my stocker TRD sport rims and would like to move up to 275/70/17 for more of a beefy look.

    Pictures coming soon.

    11-28-13 -- CBI Sliders w/ Kickouts
Installed these on Thanksgiving day. Great for protection and the kickouts are perfect for getting into the bed easily.

    01-01-14 - 08-01-14 -- Work travel in Italy / Singapore
Not a lot of progress on the truck =(
Italy and Singapore are very nice =)

05-05-14 -- N-Fab Sliding Channel Mounted Tire Rack
Spare tire was getting cooked by the exhaust, just too large to keep in the stock location for my likings. Now it eats up bed space, but I think it is the best solution (until I get a bed cap / rear bumper with tire swing!).

11-25-14 -- Viair 200 PSI Ultra Duty Onboard Air System
Mounted in spare tire location. Tank bolted through bed, compressor on custom bracket using spare tire lift mechanism location. Air hose routed to passenger storage pocket. Compressor power controlled via PDC. OBA Kit Link

    11-30-14 -- Rear Facing LEDs
Marine Lights (link) mounted between lower tailgate & upper bumper, controlled via PDC

Glad to see you're back posting updates... you've got quite a list. Did you end up installing the control arms and improving the ride?

What size spacers are on the wheels? Are they on all 4 wheels?
    Thanks, Andrew

They were 1.25" spacers, installed on all 4 wheels. (These to be exact)

I removed them because I was getting some rubbing with them installed.

With them removed the tires stuff up in the fender wells (haven't trimmed anything, removed all mud flaps) with no rubbing at all (that's the beauty of 255 "skinny" tires).

The spacers apparently were causing my handling problems. After I removed them the trucks's handling immediately improved drastically!!!
