what kind of beater truck?

Been thinking of getting a beater truck for work so mine doesnt get destroyed like it has been. Looking for suggestions. I would prefer a fullsize because I already have a compact. Thinking I can get anything decent in the 7K dollar range that will not break down on me and leave me stranded?

 

my brother just picked up an 04 sierra xtra cab with 70000 miles on it for under 10K. He wanted it for the same reason, just a beater truck to haul shit in. I can tell you that truck is the definition of a beater truck.

 

00-04 Tundras out here are fetching 5-10k depending on options

 

CRAIGSLIST!!! Fords would be hella cheap, most GM would probably be cheaper, Toyotas would be on the higher end.

I'd say look for a early 2000's heavy duty Ford or GM first.

 

the first gen tundras were not really....a truck my main problem would be the fact that anything in that range would drive like crap. I was driving the company 3/4 ton ford work van for a couple of weeks. it drove like complete crap. I got back in the tacoma and it was so dead silent it felt like a caddy. i assume the trucks drive a little better. I suppose I could spend a couple hundred bucks and change the shocks out first thing....even though the van only had 17K miles on it, same as my tacoma.

Ive had a 97 tahoe and it started to break little things at 80K. I dont know if I should go really old school, or say 5 years old. I am really digging the look on the new rams, even though every dodge truck ive been in has fallen apart by the time it hit 60K. Someone at work has a power wagon, which is out of my budget currently, but bad ass with a winch and auto unlock swaybars from the factory.

I am kinda digging the diesel idea too. I drive 400 mostly highway miles a week and they add up quick. I am alreay rounding 17K with about 8 months of drive time.

 

The Dodge Diesels are built like tanks. I've done things to them that would destroy my Tacoma.

(Note, I've only driven the 2007-2009 Ram diesels)

 

get an one of the toyota t100's... those are a decent size. plus the old 22re engines are bomb proof. mine outlasted the body of my 93 pre taco.

like what? how do they drive in general? ride, power, noise, etc?

 

get a chevy half ton or a ford F series. F250 has a really good diesel out there/
