He isn't stuck, picture is deceiving :D

I'm afraid that if it sees sunlight it will possibly melt like a vampire since it's been in the garage for a year...

Well I took the day off yesterday in attempt to get this thing drivable. Almost succeeded.

-Got the last two beadlocks cleaned up and painted. Just need to mount the tires.

-Got a full set of lugnuts from the auto parts, including wheel locks.

-Got the shift fork cut off the old ADD actuator and a blank cover plate made to seal it up. Works flawlessly. 4WD now actuates perfectly on the truck.

-Welded up the spring perches and welded them to the axle. Also welded the brake hose tabs to the u-bolt plates. Painted everything and assembled.

Right now I just need to route the breathers for both axles and run the rear brake line from the frame to the axle then bleed the brakes.

Drive to muffler shop. Hopefully get it wrapped up tonight.

That looks nastily sick!! if that is even a word or expression!
Is going to look very impressive once you get her cleaned up and detailed. That right there my friend is a trophy truck! I hope it makes it to a 4WD magazine.;)

Hey Mark, tech question for you.

If you don't already have the numbers, any chance you could find out how much full bump/droop travel you have in the slip yoke for the front driveshaft?

Based on some rough numbers I drew out I'd have 2" of total travel for my front DS, running 16" shocks. Looks like the stock slip yokes have a max of 5" of spline contact, and about 2.5" of travel before the splines are exposed.

Any idea how much spline contact is actually needed? Can't seem to find any info on this. Obviously more is better, but it would be nice to know if I'm within safe operating limits, and have plenty of spare common parts.

I know i have seen old yota's bust shafts at the splines around 1.5 inches with lots less power and wieght.

I dont remember the measurements, its been a few years but when i built my dad's D-shafts for his 83 the front has approx 2.5-3 inch of splines left at full extension. He hasnt broke it yet. Hard to break something when the truck sits :( lol

    Looking really good mark!

Since you guys are talking about slip yokes.. I'm pretty sure when I had my rear ds retubed the guy said he had to lengthen it, but now I'm wondering... If the slip yoke is all the way in when my truck is sitting flat, would I have a problem when the rear shocks are compressed?

At ride height you should have travel left in both directions at your slip yoke.

Yes, you need travel in both directions.. Depending on whether you have more droop or uptravel would be which way your margin leans, almost alway leans toward the uptravel side since most trucks will have more droop to worry about..

But ill leave it to a pro if i ever need one for the taco. Ill cut and weld them up for my old yota's, at least the play toys. The rear, on any sort of DD or highway truck i would have built by a pro.

One is the arb air line, the 1/4" is the axle breather (vent)

Ah! I knew what the ARB line was. I was confused on the breather. Guess I just assumed they were all on top of the pumpkin like on the factory axle. haha
