Bad news regarding my truck and TW

    I changed my oil successfully today and no hilarious hijinx happened this time.

    Anyone know why they changed the gaskets around? The clear one is the one that was on there prior and the solid (Blue) one is the dealership one.

    Unless the clear one is from my mechanics....:confused:

    Why is the gasket a routinely replaceable part? My cars have always had captive rubber or plastic seals on the oil drain bolts...I think I have replaced one in twenty years of driving, and it was about thirty years old at the time.

    I used to have a 1990 Nissan pickup and never changed a gasket and I did all the oil changes for 10 years. Don't know if it didn't have one, or what, but never had a leak....

    It's an extra what? $4-5 bucks a year? Over the life of a vehicle, 15 years, you're looking at $60-$75 dollars?

    Small piece of mind for a small price.

    I'm just going to change mine every 3 oil changes.

    The dealer I get my filters at just gives them for free with a filter purchase. I figure if they are free, why not. They are the blue washers by the way.

    Same. Changed mine over to synthetic and kept the factory gasket...got 3 or 4 free from the dealership when I picked up my oil filters...just gonna swap it out every 2 or 3 changes...

    No leaks or anything so far re-using the one that came with the truck.
