i'd actually argue that low is the way to go for just about everything. trophy trucks, KOH trucks, and competition crawlers all sit very low compared to what vehicles of their size could sit at.

i'm not saying don't lift. just saying that i think most people don't think about the balance of benefits, and lift more than needed. real easy to get unstuck from high centering. not as easy to get unstuck from an upsidedowning.

At least someone on here agrees with me (we are both correct):D

Everyone always makes fun of me for having Kings with 3/16" preload, but I laugh when the trails get rough and they eat my dust because ............. I got's down travel and low center of gravity.

I high center almost every time I wheel. That's what skids are for.

True...I was trying to make the point that all lifts do is lift the suspension (or body in some cases :der:) up and usually increase travel over stock lengths.

Doesn't magically change how your wheel wells are shaped.

i agree yet disagree. so your telling my my 265 fit just fine with my 3" lift so it should fit if it was 3" lower than stock right height?
take this graph for example [IMG]say the horizontal axis as tire size and vertical axis as lift size. the dead center is the point of equalibrium with means at a certain ride height you can fit certain tire size. now as you move down the graph in tire size the upward slope means the more trimming you have to do. i dont feel i explained this right somebody please understand this LOL

My body lift helps me fit tires better.

Yes trophy trucks and KOH rigs don't have much suspension lift, but they also don't have fender wells and such. If we didn't have fender wells we could fit 37's pretty easily like they can fit 40's. When we lift we adjust bump and cut what we can to help fit bigger tires in the fender wells but since we typically run 35's and down it's much easier. Or you just do like I do I guess, just let the tires beat the fenderwells into submission. haha Wonder how long it will be until my battery hits my hood...

You do have a good point about recovering from high center vs upside down. But I go wheel with guys running 35's and up on at least 6" of lift and COG hasn't caused problems yet. I just high center everywhere I go and they don't...

At ride height, the more lift you have the bigger tires you can fit. The catch is when you go wheeling you are no longer at ride height. When you adjust your lift up front all you do is change where in the arc of the control arms that the resting point is. Say you have 8" of travel up front and at factory you sit in the middle at ride height so you have 4" of down travel and 4" of up travel. Then you add a 3" lift. You now have 1" of down travel and 7" of up travel. The idea is that at full stuff and full droop the tire is in the exact same place as it was before the lift you just changed ride height. While wheeling you move through the whole range of the suspension.

The catch with my body lift, is I literally moved all the body rub points up 1". So I get less rub overall.

    Perfect explanation.

This is why I chuckle at guys who run big fat tires with 3" lifts and rub the shit out of everything and I have the same ground clearance or more with my tall skinny tires and minimal lift with no rubbing.
