Just let them know the box you received was missing features, so it was likely missing a few parts also.

I would open a claim with your credit card company though if it looks like they are going to give you a hard time about it.

That's the bad thing, I know the parts were in there when I opened it and when I returned it....

On a side note, I paid for part of it via Paypal and part of it with my CC...

Update on me trying to return the Bullydog tuner.

They still maintain that they cannot find the fuse tap and fuse spade. They also said the return department said it is evident that the package has been opened as shown by the tamper proof tape. No shit? Really? The package has been opened? How the hell else would I know that this tuner would not do what THEY advertised it would do???? Long story short, they want to charge me a 15% restocking fee AFTER I have already paid to mail it back to them. Once again, I told them that whoever is in charge of making things right, needs to take care of this. I told them I am an active member on this forum as well as a retired Army soldier and would have no problem blasting their shitty customer service on this forum as well as to every person I have contact with from being in the military. Where has all the good customer service gone?

Hey TAP AUTO PARTS.... You guys need to make this right. I bought the thing from you so you guys need to straighten out your returns department!

This is just totally pissing me off right now...

Claim filled with Paypal.....

In the event I get screwed on this thing by their piss poor customer service and have to have it shipped back to me, is anyone interested in purchasing it?

It is unlocked and comes with everything a brand new one comes with.

I will definitely let it go for much cheaper than the $898 plus shipping that they want for it now....

Sounds like Tap auto parts is the defendant here. Doesn't look good here on a customer service stand point.

I wouldn't buy from a vendor if they gave me this much grief for something as petty as that. As a vendor I would try to fix the problem so the next time the customer buys something, they would remember how good of a customer service the vendor treated them. SMH

I purchased it through TAP Auto Parts. I assume they are dealing with BullyDog customer service. The bad thing is, the story has changed a few times now. First they "accuse" me of losing/using the spade tap and spade connector (which I NEVER did). They initially replied back that once those two items were returned, they would issue the refund. Then today I get notice that the have found that the package was opened (no shit, opened? really? How else does one find out your shit doesn't do what it claimed to do?). Now they want a 15% restocking fee or they will ship the unit back to me. So ultimately they will pay more for shipping the unit back to me them for them to eat the cost of a couple of $.10 connectors that they claim I used. Bottom line up from, the customer is not always right I guess with these guys. I filled a complaint with Paypal today so we will see what happens. I am sure they will probably win this case because Paypal will go along with their restocking fee. Bad thing is, I have emails from the people at Tap Auto saying that Bullydog will waive the restocking fee. Last time I checked, I bought the tuner from Tap Auto... Shouldn't they be the ones that are dealing with the restocking fee?

You have been going back and forth sense the beginning on this, you said you wanted to return, then keep it, then return it.

We gladly accept returns as long as the item is in re-sellable condition. This item went back to BD for inspection, it was in used shape with packaging torn or missing, as well as missing parts.

Bully Dog wants to charge $40 (Hardly 15%) to replace those items. If you returned them, they would look past the damaged packaging and offer a full credit. I think that is more then fair. It may be something as simple as a fuse tap, but it is still an item that was not returned.

This part from Bully Dog was pretty clear
As for shitty customer service, we promptly return your calls and emails and have worked with you from the start. We have been very clear with our instructions and what needs to be done. I am sorry you did not like the tuner, but blasting us is not fair.

I never once said I want to return it and then changed my mind and wanted to keep it, etc. I told you from day ONE that it didn't do what you guys said it would do, so I wanted to return it. The little envelope that the card comes in is glued shut. How else would one open it. I had planned on keeping the tuner when I initially bought it due to the claims that YOU GUYS made about the product. Why are you guys playing dumb and acting like you didn't know the package was opened? How else would someone know a product that you said would do something wouldn't do what it was supposed to. I was also originally told by Richard that BullyDog was waiving the restocking fee and I can provide that email as well.

Since you want to throw texts and email out there, let's do it the right way....

This is from Richard Rowe....

Hi Dan,
Here is the updated information from the Bully Dog return department;
“I CHECKED AGAIN AND THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT THERE. THEY MAY NOT HAVE INSTALLED THE PART BUT THEY DID OPEN THE BOX FOR SURE. THERE ARE TWO CLEAR ANTI TAMPER STICKERS ON THE SIDE WHICH SHOW THAT IT HAS BEEN OPENED. ADDITIONALLY, THE ENVELOPE THAT HOLDS THE MEMORY CARD HAS BEEN TORN OPEN. AS IT STANDS THIS PART CAN NOT GO BACK INTO OUR INVENOTRY. I CAN SEND THE PART BACK TO HIM OR CHARGE A RESTOCK FEE BUT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THIS BACK AS NEW.”
Disregard the caps. It’s just the way their computer system saves notes and memos.
The Restocking Fee is $40.00
Please let me know if you would like returned to you or proceed with restocking. I hope to get this resolved to day for you.

Then I get this message from him...

Dan,
The Restocking Fee is 15% for opened package not available for resale - by Bully Dog.
The flat amount below is for items returned unopened outside their 30 Day policy.
I apologize for any confusion on this.

I even offered to send them a replacement spade tap and fuse spade for the ones that they said I used (basically calling me a liar) and I get the email today about the restocking fees.

Here are how things have went so far lately.

1) I basically get called a liar about the fuse tap and fuse spade when I am told that it is missing from the package and I told you guys everything that came out of there went back into there.

2) I get an email saying the two small items are missing and once I replace them, I will get my money back.

3) Next day I get a message saying nothing about replacing the two small items for a refund but instead says that they now have noticed that the package was opened and the little envelope for the card was torn.

4) Same day I then get a message stating a $40 restocking fee.

5) 5 minutes later I get a message now stating that it is a 15% restocking fee.

So which is it? Replace the two cheap connectors and get a full refund? Pay a $40 restocking fee? Pay a 15% restocking fee? Stories have changed a lot here lately. Someone needs to get it straight.

Bottom line up front...

How about standing up for your customer with BullyDog? A bridge is basically being burned (at least between me and your company (and Bullydog) over some $.10 connectors and a little cheap envelope that I may or may not be able to replace for a refund.....

This is the great thing about Forums, it is a place for things like this to get shared and out in the open.

TAP Auto Parts is known for customer service and we work closely with manufacturers that feel the same way.

Returns are usually a straight forward and process without incident.

Bully Dog is one for the few Manufacturers that will stand behind their product and offer a 30-Day satisfaction guarantee.

The challenge here is processing a return that is missing parts and has damaged packaging. The order in question here was not returned like "New" and with all it's original packaging.

This presents a problem for all parties; Manufacturer, Vendor and Customer.

Accepting responsibility for this return, and item that is missing parts and cannot be returned to stock for sale, will fall upon someone.

It is unfortunate that this process has gone a little sideways, but our focus is always on the customer. In a scenario like this, TAP Auto Parts makes ever effort at finding a resolution that is equitable for everyone.

Denying a "return" that is missing parts and/or damaged is standard policy in this industry. But this is not how Bully Dog and TAP Auto Parts operate.

Hopefully, we can resolve this soon.

Thank you,

Richard Rowe

It's not like he used it for a month and now is asking for a full refund. It didn't perform as advertised right out of the box(obviously things like the sunroof control won't work, however most of the other features should). I would hope Bully Dog and or Tap Auto would have fully tested it on a tacoma before release. Then the list could be specific for the tacoma.

From my personal experience Tap Auto wasn't the best at communicating. Plus the tundratalk bully dog thread wasnt encouraging for Tap. I just hope Tap or BD suck up this small expense in good faith. It could go a long way in promoting sales.

Retail price for a fuse tap...envelope...and a new box could not be more than $10 or $15. Spend that and gain a few more sales....seems to make sense to me.

The box was fine brother....

Some companies just worry about the bottom line. Like you said, the turnout of this could either help or hurt TAP Auto and BullyDog...

You're seriously coming after a customer on one of the largest forums on the net? Are you retarded?!?! Seriously thats business 101 retard...you are doing it wrong. Give the guy his money, you absorb the restocking fee (TAP) and try to recoup from your retarded business sense and "great customer service" lol.

I for one, have never witnessed ANY company big or small, who would post "personal" communications Via Email, on a forum. This seems like a backwoods seller on ebay, he said she said fight.

On a product that is effectively $900 there is no point in chasing down the customer for EVEN $40, when the issue is with the product.

If the costumer wanted to return it, because he didn't like it, or changed his mind.. Said restocking fee would be perfectly OK, and fair for everyone. BUT when you, as a company.. Get a return, because a costomer bought something based off of the info YOU provide. Or claims YOU have made, that the product CLEARLY DOES NOT do, you should be glad they are blasting you in the first place. That is pathetic, and personally i wouldn't give you my $ in good faith either. I am sure there are many other members who will feel the same.

I have read everything you, TAP have posted as well as the customer claim.

If this was a shitty customer deal, i would have stood behind you too. But its clear that this is not..

customers "fault" return-customer assumes fee, or whatever. Normal.

Company's fault, deffective item, false claims, shitty service-COMPANY eats the loss. Pull your head out of your ass. Even Walmart knows that.

Exactly. Numbers on paper don't lie, this will cost them sales and money. Period.
Not my fight or issue, but reading this saves this from happening to the next guy 'ME'. I would have also returned it if it didn't do everything advertised, 900 bucks for this tuner is ridiculous anyhow. I come from a Diesel Drag scene and even the big boys tuners that add upwards to 5-600 HP on highly modified diesels don't cost that much. Smarty, Bully Dog's own tuner, PPE, Edge, etc... their tuners are 300 to close to 700 for tuners that add at least 100-450HP. This thing adds what was it ......................like 11 HP. LOL. Come on. That's almost comical, like a price gaulging nitch market deal

Yea, i understand the lower volume=higher cost and gasoline plus n/a=lower gains. BUT i dont get the HORRID way this company, or individual representing the company (really both) handled the situation.
And if it was my company, that individual would get a kick in the ass right out the door, and as a company rep i would take any steps i could to make it right with the customer.

The customer is not always right, but thats still the best rule of operating with them. DEFFINATELY when they are..

Thanks for bringing the issue you have had (OP of the issue) to the attention and saving others like me, from another shitty customer service issue.

Since this is a development thread, there are obviously bugs that need to be worked out. There are pros/cons to being the 1st people to test new products. It is unfortunate sfcadams has had such a bad experience and I hope it is resolved quickly.
Having said that, this is a big leap in tuning for "the average joe". I hope this thread can continue to provide useful information/reviews on the product.
One idea I would like to suggest would be to have the gauges sweep on start-up.
I think it would be a cool feature and I know some other chips have that ability.

Looking forward to results of when more testing is done on Tacomas. Hopefully the gaps in model compatibility can be filled in.

I personaly would still love the product, and its a great step forward..

Someday i will S/C my truck, and by then im sure there will be a good place to buy it with good customer support.

With the gauges sweep do you mean the trucks gauges like a lexus etc? That would be cool.

I would like to be able to kill the idiot lights that flash like TPMS, Seat belt maybe even the door/key chime.
