Composite bed scratches???

I love the plastic/composite bed in the 2nd gen Tacoma's. My only issue is that it doesnt take much to scuff and scratch the plastic. Im pretty anal about this stuff and it really anoys me a plastic Coleman cooler can scuff up the bed by just sitting in the back for a drive to the campsite. Is there any product out there that restores the plastic finish and cleans up the scuffs and scratches? Or am I being too picky?

 

You should invest in a bed mat. They make soo much of a difference. It'll keep the bed from getting scratched up and keep sh** from sliding around.

Ya I do have the bed mat. Its great! Keeps the bottom of the bed mint and keeps stuff from sliding like you say. Its the sides of the bed that are scuffed. I dont haul rocks or fire wood, im pretty careful with what I place in there and it scuffs up easy! I was curious if there was somthing like an Armour all plastic re-conditioning product that would remove the scuffs?

If your so anal about your trucks bed getting scratched you should just not put anything in it then, or just get a car. I also have the factory rubber bed mat in my truck and it works great, and I also have the sides scraped and scratched. But I don't care because I know it's a bed of a truck. If you never want to worry about it again you should think about getting a rhino lining or something. But that is just my opinion and my two cents.

 

God forbid the bed of your truck (the thing ment to be use to haul shit) got scratched...

 

I bought mine used and it has lots of gashes in it, plus the bolts have scaly rust...I wouldn't worry.....it is a truck and that's what they are for!

 

I think you are being over anal. Most of the people here care a lot about their trucks....some way more than others. I think it would bother me more that the paint of my truck gets scratched way too easily, or the interior scratches easily then my bed having scuffs, but i guess that's just me. A truck bed is used to haul stuff; no one is going to blame you for the truck having scuffs and scratches in the bed. Rhino line or Line X the bed is you don't want to deal with it...you can also try to heat the plastic up with a blow dryer or heat gun to soften the plastic and blend the gouges. Simple Green, or Armor all may hide/remove the scuffs, but it's overkill for a truck bed that would normally be exposed to the elements anyways. Here's a final thought....you're truck is a tool....tools are meant to be used and serve a purpose. When you put it into that aspect....dents, dings scratches, scuffs...whatever don't tend to hurt as much.

 

I got a few scratches on the back wall shortly after I bought the truck which pissed me off. I've got the bed mat to help with the floor, but I'm always careful when loading certain things in to not scratch the sides up any.

Yeah...A bed mat and/or a bed extender/cargo gate will help manage stuff and keep anything from sliding around.
Cause there isn't anything that is going to fix those scratches and what not. You might be able to clean some of them out so they aren't as obvious-but all in all...Gotta agree you are being a bit over-anal about the condition of the bed.

 

I use STP's Son of a Gun in the bed each time I wax the truck or as needed. It does not remove the scratches or scuffs caused by hauling boulders or bricks but you won't notice the minor ones as much caused by the ice chest and so on.

 

The scratches in the bed are a badge of honor. Who wants an armor-alled truck bed so stuff slides around more? Soon after I bought the truck I threw six 50+ lb. rocks in the bed and went up and down the driveway about a dozen times. I live on the side of a cliff so that did the trick.

 

If you consider your truck to be of 'show piece' quality and not a 'work horse' (for example) - then scratches are gonna bug you. Nothing wrong with that....

I have a bed mat....which is GREAT to prevent stuff from sliding. Obviously, it'll protect the bottom part of the bed....but it doesn't protect the sides. You'd probably want some sort of insert that'll protect the entire thing. But then again....whatever you get inside, would have to be kept scratch free & clean. Is it even worth it?

I've heard if you use a hair dryer or some sort of heating gun on the interior plastic.....GENTLY...you can massage/heat scratches out. Maybe you can try that on the bed?

I've buffed mine with armor all, it works fine..I have a bed mat so no sliding around. My 2006 bed looks brand new and I've hauled all kinds of shit in it. In fact, I don't ever want a steel bed....it's what turned off my interest in the new Tundra. I am very much into using new materials, etc.
