I know. Both can be extensions of the personality of a bad owner.

Sure. When the imprinted personality of its owner dictates it.

A dog on its own without the imprint of an owner is just a dog, and isn't like the loaded weapon its bad owner wants it to be.... which is more dangerous than just being wild. ;)

No. Dumb question. All about how you raise them. Do you think all germans are bad?

34 idiot cat ladies so far. lol. It's all in the owner. If a pit is rescued, who knows how it's previos owner treated it. If it is raised with you and is mean when it's older, shouldn't have treated it badly when it was young. The term "scarred for life" comes to mind.

Whoever can answer "yes" to this has probably never owned a pit bull. I do not currently own one, but I am still around three every single day, and they have never harmed anyone. They are the sweetest and most lovable dogs I have ever met. I walk into the door of my best friend's house, and they are all over me, kissing me and begging to be pet. The only attacking they do is with kisses- they will lick you to death! :)
The older male, Jake, was a stray that my friend found on his porch many years ago, all skin and bones. He nursed Jake back to health, and he has been a most faithful companion ever since he walked in that door. About four years ago, he rescued a female puppy, Jewel. (after the country singer.) Jewel Bug, who was a sick and wormy puppy when he got ahold of her, is now a pleasingly plump, ultra-loveable momma's girl. She follows around my best friend's wife EVERYWHERE. About three weeks after my friend's son was born, Jake and Jewel had a litter of nine puppies. They ensured that seven of them got good homes with friends of theirs. One unfortunately passed away shortly after birth. The last one they decided to keep, a little black bundle of fur they named Max. Max is now almost four years old, and is twice the size of his parents. My friend's son, just a few weeks older than Max, spent his whole life with these dogs, and they have been good to him. They are his best friends, and have never attacked anyone. They good-naturedly put up with the abuse of a three year old child without protest. (We all know how small children are with dogs- they like to jump on them and pull their tail and ears, etc.)
It's all in how you raise the dog- any dog can be mean if it's not treated right.

Oh no, not one incident  People don't realize that even one little tiny thing that happened in a dog's life that wouldn't seem bad to an owner will stick with that dog. It's common sense. Let's say in this case, when the pit was young and when it started encountering with other dogs, the other dogs scared it and it always stuck with that dog and decided to snap on another dog when it got older. It doesn't always have to be the owners' fault, but 95% of the time, it is. If not, it's something else that happened to make them snap.

And don't tell me I'm wrong because I helped my brother train service dogs in the past almost 4 years and learned behavior issues from a dog behavioraist the past year. A dog's behavior is 100% because of how the dog was raised. Period.

One of the biggest reasons is the thug gangbanger retards breeding the dogs to be violent and overly aggressive for fighting. The thug lifestyle is a big reason for this. The TURDS like Michael Vick hood rats with money.
Look in any shelter in your area about half of the dogs are Pitbulls or Pit mix. The over breeding and lack of common sense is also a big problem.

This too. Well this is America, most people don't have common sense. For example, look who voted yes.

My Girlfriend and I's dog isn't even a pit, but he is scared of kids in the 5 year old range. Why? Because when he was about 2 months old, a bunch of little kids around that age chased him. Now if he sees a kid that age, he will hide behind us and growl if a kid gets close enough. EVERYTHING sticks with ANY dog.

Ive had good experinces with pit bulls. The breed I probably wont own nor do I like to be around is Rottweillers. No offense to owners, but a bad experince as a 13 year old with my neigbors Rott attacking my English bull dog has scarred me. He was loved and well trained but that didnt matter. My dog was doing his buisness in our yard, I guess the Rott felt threatend, he found a way out of his yard and came and locked onto the side of our bubba. I was freaking out, first tried being nice and tried pulling his collar and petting his back to get him off. That didnt work so I punched him on the nose, and off course he lunged at me. I figured he would but I had to get him off my dog. Luckily my brother saw and heard what was going on earlier and had a bat ready. One swing to his side and he went home. Very scarry couple of minutes. I always steer clear of rottweillers.

That's cool and all, but it still doesn't explain the severe number difference in pit bull attacks vs. let say, lab attacks. There are obviously more labs then pits. If everything you're saying is the only determining factor, then shouldn't labs be ranked number 1 with most attacks? If how they are raised and one incident that happened in its life 3 years ago are the only determining factors then why do pit bulls with such a low number compared to labs, have more attacks? Bad people own labs too. Labs get scared by other dogs too. Difference is you don't hear about labs charging out doors and mauling the neighbors dog, or attacking kids as much do you. THERE'S A REASON!!

All you guys have done is regurgitated the same nonsense over again. Yet nobody has given a reason as to why pit bulls (who aren't the most popular dog by numbers) have the HIGHEST attack numbers, by a good margin.

"It's the owner" is a crock of shit. Every type of dog has bad owners. Every type of dog has bad experiences. If those were the only factors then every dog with more numbers, by default, should have more attacks then pit bulls. Placing all the blame on the owner doesn't work out since every type of dog has an owner.

Again, nobody is calling you guys idiots, or making fun of you for owning a pit, so you can drop your guard. Also, nobody is attacking your dog. Nobody is denying that a bad owner can turn a dog bad either. People are simply looking at numbers, facts, experiences and going from there. Seems you guys with pits are ignoring that and just going off your one dog, or multiple if you've had more then one. Maybe you got lucky and all three of your pits have never done something wrong, but I bet all those cases of people with pits that killed something, or worse, killed their child probably thought the same thing up until that point.

I also think the title of the thread is causing issue. "Bad" was probably not the best choice of words.

I agree, some dogs are just more aggressive by nature. I think plain and simple, that's what it boils down to. Chihuahuas are apart of this group, but they are so little. My parents currently have a Chihuahua and an English mastiff. They are both loved and calm dogs. The mastiff would never harm anyone. The Chihuahua on the other hand would try to rip out your Achilles' tendon if he felt threatened. Not to go off topic but I think the "" above has some truth.

If it's a crock of shit, then what's the real reason? Only reason you hear pits all of a sudden is because of the dog fights with Michael Vick in the past. And because of that, people thought it was cool and got pits to do the same and that's where the numbers come in. I'm not a dumbass with dogs.
