No, I don't think they are all bad. It comes down to the raising and breeding of the dog. I've read that Jack Russell's, chihuahuas, and dachshunds are WAY more likely to bite than pits. They just don't do as much damage when they do. I've personally known several pits who have been nothing but giant babies. Pits also used to be known as "nanny" dogs back in the early 1900s. People used to leave them with their kids. You can do a search and find lots of old pictures of them with kids back then.

Point is, they're big, powerful, scary sounding dogs. When they do attack, they do a lot of damage. The media loves to jump on the bandwagon when an attack happens because it draws ratings. They would have a lot more stories about little yapping ankle biters attacking people, but it's not as good of a story.

Agreed. I think pits probably have a higher number of bad owners than some of the other breeds. No one gets a Pug because they look scary or want to intimidate people.

    I'm not a pitbull breeder/owner/trainer so I don't know

All infamous dog breeds had their time.

    Rotweilers
    German shepherds
    Dobermans

    Now pitbulls.

And on that note here's my shepherd
    [IMG]

He ain't friendly. And it's up to me to keep him from getting into trouble. Just like any owner. They need to be responsible for their dogs.

Every breed of dog has the same chance to come out mean. Every breed of dog has the same chance to "snap" and attack. The problem is when a pitbull does snap and attack the results are way worse than other dogs. I say get them off this planet.

That's the silliest shit I've ever heard. Pitbulls don't even have the strongest bite. Other dogs can do a lot more damage.

    Irresponsible owners.

I understand your homeowners insurance can be affected by ownership of certain dog breeds including bull terrier.

I do understand what you are saying, and I understand you aren't trying to attack those of us that do support the pit bulls. I also understand that everyone is entitled to their own reasoning, and that what I say may not sway you or anyone else that may read this. This is simply what I think.
A good part of that may be attributed to the fact that pit bulls have a sort of image we have created of them, as ideal fighters. Think about it this way. If you were placing a bet on a fight or trying to coach a fighter, would you rather pick a scrawny, stringy guy, or a stocky, stout fellow? You're going to go for the one who looks like he would win, wouldn't you? Whereas pit bulls are by no means the biggest dogs, they are stout and sturdy, with strong jaws, and a good instinct. Many see them as natural fighters due to their physique and also their devotion, and may breed them to fight, or take them on as guard dogs to protect their homes. They are also common enough to where people don't have to spend excessive amounts of money for a good fighting dog or guard dog. A dog that people perceive as more inclined to be a good fighter is of course, more likely to be used in a combative situation, whether it be for sport or protection. If a dog, regardless of breed, is brought up to be a fighting dog, chances are, he will remain that way. If he is brought up to attack anyone that comes in his house, or that he perceives is threatening his owner, he may be people aggressive. It is largely in how they are raised, though that is certainly not the only factor.
I am also of the thought that little dogs like Chihuahuas and whatnot bite more, but due to their size, they are seen as a nuisance, not as a threat. I can count to you probably a good fifty times that my mother's old chihuahua Burg bit me in anger. (Usually if I tried to take away something he was eating that he wasn't supposed to be eating.) I loved that little guy to death. But he still bit the hell out of me. :D
