Do you take the antennae off or unscrew the base? Mine has a not that keeps the coax in place and can unscrew the base so you don't have to take set screws out...

I thought what little swr tuning hams had was done with that set screw.... I would unscrew it from the coax, not the set screw.

The tuning is done by cutting the length down. The set screws just make good contact and hold it in...

Measure the diameter of the exposed connector, go to home depot and buy the little rubber feet for the bottom of chairs. When the antenna is off slip that over it. Thats what I do for my air fittings. I still wouldn't do the set screw because eventually you'll wear or strip the threads out.

Got my coax and mount for the race radio. I guess I too need to cut it to tune I also need to mod my radio so I can operate on whatever frequency everyone is on.

Shit. I worked at Mickie D's back in 1993 and the best cook we had was a dude named Isidro, was in there a couple months ago and he was still in the back flippin burgers. He had been there a long time when I worked there, I'd say that qualifies as a career. Most people just aim a bit higher.

Yep. Be sure to ask to fill out harvest record, it's the law. Walmart seldom asks you to do it.
