3" lift- 285/75/16 or 255/85/16??

Planning on getting Icon Stage 2 3" suspension setup, but I am torn between the 285/75/16 and the 255/85/16 . I'd prefer to not have to trim, but if need be I will do it as long as it is minimal. If you have a 3" lift and either of the tires sizes please chime in a let me know the advantages and disadvantages! Thanks!

 

There's some guys reported that they are running 255/85 on stock wheels with stock suspension and no trimming. No off roading either. See the 255/85 thread in the wheels & tires section.

 

id go 285/75/16

 

x2. I run this size and I had to get new rims with more backspacing because the tires rubbed on the UCA's. I also had to do pretty minor trimming.

 

3", 285/75/16 here. No rubbing in any situation. My 2008 had the same setup, just different wheels. Rubbed at full lock. Ymmv. I'd go with 285's

 

Putting lift and 285's on today, will let you know how it turns out op.

 

Thanks for the reply. I do like the stance of yours. I'm really wanting the BFG All Terrains, Ive always ran them and get really good mileage out of them since 80% is on pavement. Do you have spacers? How much trimming if any? Do they rub on your UCA's?

Thanks! You would think though that with stock suspension there would be rubbing like crazy... That 255 is big compared to the stock size!

 

Uca's are upper control arms. They are need to maintain proper alignment and are normally needed at lifts greater then 2.5 inches. They are also stronger then factory ucas and allow more travel. What part of Texas are you in OP?

 

I was asking if his UCA's were stock or not. I decided on uniball vs. heim joint. They are cheaper and don't squeak as much.

 

I would go 255/85/16

X2 after this set of 285's goes I think I'll try 255's next...

 

How did it turn out? Any rubbing. I'm doing the ToyTec ULK and UCAs. Would like to mount up 285/75/16 to my OEM TRD wheels but would prefer not to have to do any trimming or the cmc. I have 265/75/16 right now and have no rubbing in any situation so far on or off road.

 

I would go 255/85's on a 2" lift.

or

285/75/16 on a 3" lift.

285's look so damn good, but 255's are taller and usually do just as well if not better offroad and onroad.

 

Woah so 285's do fit fine on stock wheels. I'm in the same boat as you OP. Decisions decisions lol.

How much of a spacer are you running Beavis? I'm guessing 1/2" to get 5 BS?
