It's an H4 bulb. Really doesn't matter who made it.

Oh yea....it does... Sylvania bulbs in general last much longer, and put out a more consistent light than the cheap knock off H4 bulbs. That is like saying oil is oil, it doesn't matter who makes it. :D I would go with the Sylvania before any other brand.

How often do you replace bulbs? The stock H4 that came out of my truck are a German Osram 60/50. The H4's that are now in it came from my "97" Tacoma they are Hella 100/80 watt H4 bulbs (yes they were "E" spec replacement lamps) they came from India they are probably 10 years old they make the stock lamps look yellow. I'm not suggesting going to WalMart and buying a $2 bulb on sale for a $1.29 that would be kind of like buying paraffin based WalMart oil. I would say the chances of a Sylvaina coming from China are pretty high nothing wrong with a Sylvaina but saying the others are inferior just is not true.

What HID projectors did you have? Why is it so bad you want to go back to halogens?

Suspect he put HID's in the stock lamps that does not work well.

i know Sylvania makes several different "model" headlights. like Silverstar vs. grey vs. red packaging. not sure what the differences are (other than price), as i don't have them in front of me, but does anyone know which flavor of Sylvania?

With owning a shop, and working on cars for 30 years, I have replaced them a lot. Sylvania bulbs are not made in China, btw. They are made in several countries according to their advertizements anyway, but not China. Hella 80/100 are not stock bulbs. They are extra bright, and can get you a ticket depending on where you live. Federal standards for hallogen headlamps is 50/60. The OP was asking about returning to stock. I still stand by the Sylvania brand light bulb over all others. My customers have never complained once about them. they have however bought their own bulbs from the parts store and come to me saying that they are dull, or burning out quickly. Sylvania uses a superior glass, and a much more refined system to make their bulbs last. Sylvania bulbs also receive much higher reviews consistently than any other brand of bulb. I don't know about you, but to me, if a product consistently gets better reviews, that means that the others are inferior to it. But as I always say, to each their own.

Guess I can say pretty much the same thing about Hella's I gave up working on car/trucks for a living 18 years got a job with a pension. Owned 2 shops (at the same time) started full time at 14 got burned out went to work for the PD then retired. I was involved in the Pro Rally for many years we used real lights and bulbs with filaments more often then not Hella's it's was nice to see in the dark during a snowy winter race in the woods. I am fully aware that 100/80 are off road but I'm also fully aware there are a lot of moose and deer on the back roads of Maine that's why the bright lights. I too have replaced a lot of bulbs but there were also a lot of car coming through the door guess I should have said on your own car I could count the numbers on my personal ones with out using all my fingers.

Again, my point was the OP was asking about going STOCK, so the 50/60 would be the way to go. Sure, Hella are great lights, but I stand by Sylvania.

Pretty much that is what they are going to find on the shelves DOT spec bulbs, maybe different pretty packaging and colors but the bottom line there will be very little difference between them. I fully agree that a bargain bulb is just that inferior glass poor construction etc. but you can't go wrong with a brand name you recognize like Philips, Hella, Sylvania and so on.

Not going to lie, I've had ford Chevy and first Toyota. Toyota headlight bulbs are the hardest to replace and I have small hands, I would hate to have large hands. Headlight bulbs work look good and hopefully they last :)
