What a coincidence. I just got back from break, sitting in my truck, thinking that would make a decent spot for the scangauge (carried over from Corolla).

This pic is of it when it was laying loose. I have since reattached it and moved the cable to the back plug. The plastic there is slick so the 3m tape wouldn't stay stuck. I glued it on. The only think it blocks for me is the cruise control light. And im pretty sure I know when I am using cruise :)

On my Corolla, I had it right in the center between the two front seats, up on top of the dash. Using the ventilation holes and zip-ties. I pulled it too tight though and caused pressure against the windshield, which I think contributed to the windshield cracking.

I'm thinking right on top of the dash above the wheel this time. Just want a non-permanent solution. Maybe self-adesive velcro strips? That way, my eyes aren't far from the road when I check it (eyes won't have to be as far down as when I check my rpm/speed on the stock console). I made an aluminum shroud for my phone-GPS on the scooter (couldn't see it in daylight before the shroud was put on). Maybe something like that for the scan gauge will look less tacky and allow me to see the nice red glow.

I live in Canada so i hope my conversions are right but im getting about
    19mpg or 12.5 L/100k when 100% highway
13mpg or 18.5 L/100k with my fairly aggressive driving and a bit of auto start in the morning.

Consistent 20.6-21.5 mpg with a mix of city/hwy driving.

I've noticed that I only get about 19 mpg if I go on a road trip and keep it set at 75 mph.

I have had a habbit of always trying to make the fastest time, untill i bought my 2012, now 2013

The best MPG is had between 55-60 i would bet you can get 23 mpg if you cruise 55-60

today i was running behind. I got 11.6 mpg on the way to work, no comment on speed.

I'm surprised by some many Taco owners focus on MPG. Thought that was only on the Prius forum.. I just bought the Prius this year so I'm just adjusting(low HP). Though seen as wimpy, the effciency is pretty amazing and anyone can use those driving technique to improve MPG.

They are impressive but they cost too much.
Late 80s early 90s civics can come close way cheaper.. old crx hf 52 mpg on the old epa scale.. I dont like those tho, I liked my 92-95 civic coupe and the 30 plus was great. But I hate driving cars. Great for cheap gas and fun at times.. but driving my truck is so much more practical and comfortable. But I also tow and haul all the time.

I get 18 mpg city and highway like 20 or 22. Although gas isn't really much of an issue for me
I thought About all this before getting her so I know what was coming. I mean it is a truck :)

You can't compare those car produced in the 80's and 90's since they were actually cheaper to produce. Compared to today Civic, the Prius doesn't cost too much more. I had a 1990 Civic SI and though a great car, it's built quite different. The Prius mpg in the city kills both the Civic too.. back then and modern day..

In the end though, I think the Prius looks a lot better.

Your right, you cant compare them apples to apples, the prius is more efficient, safer, has way way way more tech etc etc. And the price for what you get isn't bad, i dont mean it in that context

I mean, for me.. The only reason i would have something efficient is to save some dollars, if i drove farther than i do now (right about 15k a year) like a 30 min drive to work or something, then owning something that gets 30 plus mpg would make perfect sense for days when i dont need my truck. And since its only purpose is a second vehicle, i can get a 92-95 civic coupe in good shape for less than 4-5 k any day. I have done every kind of work there is to do on one, (short of the computer programing) and i could keep it on the road extremely cheap.

In a few years, i plan to move back to Iowa, and live about 30-45 min from work. By then the Taco will be paid off, and i would like to have no payment.

I would bet that other than a ford festiva, or geo metro there arent many cars on the road that would be cheaper long term than a civic of that era. And the civic, is so much better than either of those.

But 3-4 years from now i may want the prius, or something newer.. Chances are it will be an FRS if i buy something newer. It is gutless, and has the weakest bottom end of ANY 200 hp import i have ever driven, but it drives WONDERFUL, i love it.. The seats are great, the tranny is great, and on the power its ok. No rocket ship but a blast to drive. Trunk is smaller then they make it seam in the ads but overall i was very happy with it when i tested it.

My other plan, which i may go with is an old 2wd diesel toyota pickup for the drive. Good mpg, simple with nothing to do basically but still with a bed.. Can't tow anything though.

Also i havent drove a prius, heard they are actually pretty nice to drive..

I drove a CRZ and it was terrible.

The new civics have numb and dumb steering, they have smooth and glass 6spd, but it gets to be old with all of the short gears driving around town... and the interior is just not practical. Nice seats.

^also your body style prius, is much better than the first body style. They arent that bad, and better than a crx, or up to 91 civic. 92-95 and 96-00 are my favorite for them. After that they became one of sonic the hedgehogs shoes, and dont drive much better.

Surprisingly I get 16-18 with a V6, 3" of lift, and 285/65/18 trail grapplers. Mainly city, rest is interstate. 18 is rare, 17 is once in a while, 16 is when I run my tank to 1/4 or less. I would say my average is 16.7-17.3.

Have 4.0l auto presunner and when I first bought it I took it to Texas for a visit and got 23 mpg with 4 people, luggage and A/C on all of trip.
Have since installed a Truxedo Truxsport roll up tonneau cover so should hopefully get 25 or maybe better if not using the A/C.

Had my v6 manual tacoma only a week now and got 17.6 with 93 octane. Gonna look into getting a bed cover and air filter soon too. Also going to try and keep the rpms below 2k with this next tank.

that means less than 50mph. period.. :)

dont waste your time with the cover for MPG sake.

If you want it for looks or whatever, that cool but its not going to help with MPG.

here in kansas we dont even have 93 (was a PITA when i moved here and my s/c corolla was tuned for 93)

Only way your really going to get decent MPG with the 6spd,
-cruise 55mph on the highway 19-20 avg, if you have help or extra good day 21, maybe 22 dont expect much more, ever.. unless you cruise 45-50 but its too slow to even consider :)

-watch your throttle, if your spinning too many rpm-killin MPG same with if your %100 throttle lugging it. There is a happy medium

I dont really care too much, but i do know how to save it when i want too

Air filter won't help with mpg either.
