They had both performance models and awesome MPG miles so they had potential however you wanted. Unless you wanted to look good

Agreed. It's really sad that toyota refuses to make a decent car anymore. At least their trucks are still good.

in the US they only went to ST185 and were called Celica alltrac. I would be just as happy to own a US spec unmolested Alltrac

they made an alltrac tercel and corolla as well but they werent awesome.

^this car is the base design from the Era past of toyota, that held the pikes peak world record for 13 years!

The problem with a alltrac, is they weren't whored out and oversold POS like the DSM.

They were MUCH nicer, and "similar" performance stock as a DSM

But the higher quality, and fit and finish meant toyota's sticker price was higher.

Higher sticker was less sold
less sold was less cheap aftermarket support

The same story is told for all real iconic Toyota cars, and engines.

Then we get to recent years, both the 1zz and 2zz engines were great and have lots of potential. But they were in crap cars (mostly) so they dont have much interest, and they dont have much Toyota racing backed support.. Because toyota doesnt participate like they did..
