Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.

I feel very bad for whoever hits me. Alternatively, I feel bad for my back and neck if I ever hit a wall or something immovable.

I love in these tests how the mirrors always fold forward and then pop back into place lol.

Pretty amazing how well these trucks hold up compared to the older models of ford/dodge. I remember a test they did with Saabs on Top Gear where they dropped a BMW onto it's roof and it was basically a pancake and when they did it with the Saab (same year similar model) it barely deformed at all. They said they could even run in rallying without a roll cage because the car was built so strong. Pretty cool stuff it's a shame they went bankrupt.

Bankrupt... its what happens when GM buys your company :)

I have seen that one on top gear, they were talking about the a pillars.. It was pretty cool. I really like the UK topgear they always have something interesting :)

And yea, american trucks really weren't very safe at all untill 2008 ish (each companys newer gen) its really pretty bad, i never knew almost all american trucks basically failed any sort of saftey test for a long long time untill after my parents were almost killed in the 93. Then of course i found out after.

One of the things i didnt mention is many of the older tests were slower, i think 35 mph? and the newer tests are faster.. it just shows how much things have improved in recent years, specifically in american cars and trucks.

    Interesting. I havent seen any.

I guess its not suprising they habent beefed the structure of the roof much since old Toyota pickups but the trucks are heavier.

From what I understand to be considered good for rollover roof strength the squish it at an angle and at 4 times the truck weight its supposed to deflect or cave in less than a percentage like 20 or something.

I havent read about it in a long time so I mah be remembering it wrong.

I also know almost all of the rolled tacomas I have seen on salvage auctions have survived pretty good.
And real world is always the final judge.

I bet you are right, and I would bet thats why tacomas arent made with sunroofs..

I was very surprised how bad the bel air did! shows how the heavier gauge of the steel does NOTHING to make up for poor structure!

wow.. I am impressed that Taco did well on frontal and side impact.. glad that I picked taco.. I cant beleive that chevy and ford crushed up like a soda can. Dodge is half assed. I have take the count of the year it made on these trucks. since 2010 they beefed up on the bigge trucks.. I still thinks trucks do better in the crash compared to smaller cars.
No wonder I have an attuide toward to so called smart cars and the smallish. They dont do well in crash bottom line. Tell me I know.. firefighter for 25 yrs..

The IIHS rates the Tacoma good in Moderate Overlap, Side impact, and Head and Seat restraints, but only moderate in rollover. They rate roof strength by the amount of force required to crush the roof by 5 inches divided by the vehicle weight. The Tacoma does pretty poorly in regards to most vehicles in roof strength, but most small pickups don't do well in that test. The Frontier gets a good for roof strength but an acceptable for head and seat restraints.

Vehicle safety has really come a long ways recently and it is impressive the Tacoma still does well even though it's a 10 year old design.

There is the answer for the roof strength test, thanks.

Yes, the tacoma design does well and even better for its age, I tried to post mainly similar age vehicles, posting all of the newest ones would make for a HUGE thread :)

I wouldn't want to drive a smart car and certainly wouldn't want to be in that thing going over 35 mph. I wonder if they recommend driving them on highways.
