    ...or,

The are a select group of talented athletes who entertain us and are worth each and every million spent?

-I'm specifically speaking about baseball players.

    Go.............

I think they get paid what they CAN get paid, some over some under, but its not like the owners are not making money enough to pay them.

Are they overpaid though? Or are they proportionally paid when their bosses make billions off of their labor?

Last I had checked, the NFL salary cap is covered by the TV contacts. That means that every ticket sold is intended to cover the cost of the upkeep and running of the stadiums, and let me assure you, Bob Kraft, Jerry Jones et al are not paying their concession staffs and grounds keepers much more than minimum wage despite charging you for PSLs, tickets, parking, $10 beers, and overpriced child labor made jerseys.

Maybe the topic shouldn't be whether athletes are overpaid, but if team owners are gouging us and we're pissed because the athletes have an organization to help them fight back when we don't.

As long as the fans are buying tickets, tickets are not overpriced.

Don't feel that they are worth a couple of million to play a game? Don't buy their tickets.
I haven't bought a sporting event ticket in 20 years, and rarely buy concert tickets. Used to watch the Angels all the time when I was a kid.

I believe ball park ticket sales barely keep the lights on...

the big money is the TV deals and corporate sponsorship. that's what pays the owners the big bucks and allows them to offer such high salary contracts.

seems the huge salaries coincide with the expansion of cable TV. :notsure:

and while I don't necessarily feel some of the players are worth millions of dollars a year...it is a pretty exclusive club to be in. if my trade had limited participants nationwide, and my skills demanded the scale of income MLB players do...I'd have to consider the multi million dollar offers. :D

if you can hit a grand slam HR against major league pitching in the bottom of the 8th inning in a LCS to tie the ball game...

your skill and entertainment value may be worth millions of dollars...

So stop buying premium cable channels and Viagra.

If the advertising was not effective, and if people did not subscribe to the premium sports packages, salaries would drop.

The money to pay the players is not coming from the sky... it is coming from the people who purchase advertised products.

It's just a game. How can they be overpaid? If people want to pay the price through tickets and products paying for air time why would anyone think they're over paid? It's really a reflection of our society and what we are willing to spend our money on IMO.
