My dad and I were at walmart yesterday and I told him my wife and I were thinking about getting rid of our cable, so we looked at the indoor antennas they had. They ranged from $15-$70. Some amplified and some not. I know an amplified one is going to be better. Which ones do you guys have or have used that are good? I didn't want to put one in the attic and have to run wires down the wall or inside the wall.

I have a 20$ bestbuy amplified one. I think its an RCA. Has 2 telescopic antennas and a rectangle part at the base. I ran it across my room and hung it in the window, and now I get about 13 channels or so good and clear. Im sure an outdoor one would do better, but after some tweaking this one works Of course I live near a lot of these stations. You may have to go outside and higher up depending.

If you want another alternative and you have a good internet service provider (at least 10 mbps) you can buy a Roku for about $80? and it gives local channels along with other channels, no monthly fees and the picture quality is superb.

You just buy the box and it has built in channels, you need a good internet connection though. I would say 10 mbps would suffice

I use apple TV but i am looking to get local channels and based on reviews I read I think I am going with the Mohu Leaf. I haven't read a bad review yet. It's about $40.

I'm getting ready to cut the cable too.

I live about an hour from all the major stations, so I'll probably have to put up an antenna outside (there was a dish here before so there is coax and mount outside, so it should be easy to do.)

Enter your address in that website and it will tell you what kind of channels towers are near you and show you how strong. There's a guide on the site, but basically anything in green you should be able to get with an indoor antenna, anything else you need an attic or outdoor antenna.

I am going to keep internet through the cable company, so I will still have the coax coming out of the floor. Does the actual cable "know" if its internet or tv? Like after I call the cable company and tell them I want to cut the cable but still have the internet can I still hook up the cable to the tv and still get channels or will I still have to buy some sort of antenna?

The cable provider will only "provide" internet service over the coax. Just like if you have the basic cable package, you can't see all channels even though it's the same cable if you upgraded.

The Trianguleee area. I get WRAL, the UNC PBS channels, some spanish channel and some others. UNCEX is pretty good. Lots of travel shows. And WRAL for college football. I have netflix on pc, but I thought about piping it to the TV as well with a box like WDTV appletv, roku

Ditto, If you have internet through your cable company (Time Warner) you can hook up a coax to the wall and pick up about 20 channels. I've also got the Xbox hooked up to stream netflix, etc.

I've got Suddenlink as our cable company, but do you have some sort of antenna to get local channels? Just a little confused

I was not aware of this! Now I am off to get a splitter and check this out. Cool to see someone from the area, I will keep an eye out for your ride around the area. Mine's a silver single cab with black helios wheels.
