I have narrowed my choices down to two trucks. One is $27000 4 cyl Manual. The other is $33500 V6 TRD "Baja" Edition. I want the Baja bad but is it going to drink the gas compared to the 4 banger option, would be completly happy with the 4cyl bc curently i drive a corolla. :)
any imput on the MPG would be Very helpful!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
In your shoes with 30k to spend... I'd get the 6.

    Ask yourself

    1. What can you afford?

If you can afford both, move to next question.

    2. What do you really want?

Nothing worse than being stuck with a major investment that you don't like or wish was something else. No matter what, both trucks cost a pretty penny. Make sure you're going to be happy with it and can afford what you buy.

Ok good because if you were looking at a 4cyl DC Taco (I don't even know if those come in manual) I was going to say go for the V6 all the way.

And are you keeping the Corolla? Because then you could drive it when you want to save on gas while still getting the Taco with more oomph. The difference in mpg between 4cyl and V6 is definitely there but I feel more power from the V6 outweighs that, which is why I prefer V6. And I feel it makes more sense to have one more fuel economic vehicle and a truck with more power, versus a car and then a truck that lacks what it could have had.

I traded my corolla s for my truck and I like the small 4 cylinder engines. You could use the money saved to buy a suspension after. I don't haul/tow a lot so a 6 cylinder might be better for that.

I had a access cab 4 banger, 5 speed 4wd. It was ok around town. Serves as good transportation, but boring. Not gonna win any red lights. I feel the shift pattern kinda sucks, probably because of the lack if torque.

I now gave a double cab 4x4 6 cylinder auto and love it. Good power, better ride.

I drove the baja and came close to getting it. I wanted a txpro and had one at an awesome price, really only a few hundred more than the off road I bought, but didn't like the color.

If you can float it. Do it once. Buy the bigger one.

If you drive at elevation do not get the 2.7L. I just made a thread yesterday about moving on, it's a miserable experience on inclines and flats (if any opposing winds) and you lose significant power off the bat being at high elevation. I get 19-20mpg, I expect to get the same in a 6cyl DCLB 4x4 taco, or the same in a new 4runner even. They make significantly more power for similar fuel economy, which I burn up trying to maintain speed and riding out 4th to get up hills.

If you don't haul much and live in an area appropriate for a 4cyl, you'll likely have no gripes with it. Just don't get power envy ever, because you'll start doing the math and realizing the fuel economy trade off.. and move on. I seriously thought I'd be fine with mine, but driving should be pleasurable when traffic is flowing and it's just starting to bother the hell out of me.

That's also the other thing. With the 4 banger I had to keep my foot in it, and averaged 18-19 mpg. I live in a hilly area though. Getting the same with the 6 and don't have to keep my foot in it at all.

I know if I got the Baja I wouldnt want for a truck for a long long time, the 4 banger I might want to trade later on

Well, I said I'd keep my 4cyl forever and I didn't last long :) If you're already realizing one you'd keep much longer than the other, do it right the first time. I'm hoping my next vehicle will be adequate in all regards and won't need to be replaced until some crazy new engine technology emerges (and has a good test run to prove reliability). Don't be tempted by any mention that a 4cyl will allow you to afford more mods... you'll find yourself considering regearing, a bunch of low power making bolt ons, superchargers. Sigh

4 cylinder= good on gas, tough manual trans. but SUCK on power.(at least w/lift &big tires)

6 cylinder= worse on gas, decent trans. Way better power.

Go with the 6, you know you want to;)
I've had both, so its just my .02

Not much different in fuel consumption about couple hundred bucks a year depending how much you drive of course... I like the V6

Split the difference and get a trd off road v6. Under 30k...barely. 4cyl is fine for a standard cab but you will find it too weak in anything heavier. Especially towing anything or having anything extra in the bed.

Now, if you're considering a 4cyl ac or a baja, it means that you think the baja is badass. So, consider that it will be miserable to be making payments on a truck you sort of like while being passed by a truck you really like.
