cold engine starting difficulties

Hi everyone,

My first taco trd 4x4 4L 2008 6 speed manual transmission having a problem at cold engine starting, more than three or more revolution before the engine start.

Mine acts the same way sometimes and another guy who has the same truck at work said his seems to turn over longer at times.....Never been a problem,but I've definitely noticed it.

Enjoy your new truck and before you know it you won't notice it anymore.

Just realized that one of these apply to the V6 and the other for earlier models. Sorry, nevermind

 

mine cranks for awhile too, alot more than other trucks I've owned. Nice to hear its sorta common.

 

I was having the same problem. I live in North Texas and when it got colder the truck started taking longer to start up. I called the dealer and let them know what was going on. The service manager asked me what grade fuel I was using and I told him Super. He suggested I switch to regular for the winter, he said super has been known to cause longer starts in the winter. I switched to regular and haven't had a problem since.

 

Hmm, this is kinda unrelated, i bout a 2005 reg cab 4x4 from florida ( I live in norther ontario, canada -40c on the worse of days) and the thing starts fine, even though i heard rumours (think their bogus) about the trucks being manafactured in southern states have less insulation on the wires and such things like alttenators are different like i said bogus rumours, but U cant hold me to that!

 

take it to the dealer and get the ecu reflashed....should help out....per tsb.

 

the other day mine kinda scared me with this. usually is takes like 3-4 revolutions before it starts, but the other day it didn't start like usual. then i cranked it for another good 5 seconds straight before it finally fired. kinda weird too because it was like 50 outside and usually its pretty much the same regardless of the temp.

 

My 4cyl also had problem to start(slow cranking) and a lot of noises apeared after engine running at cold temperature. First I was desapointed because cold start my taco sound worst than my 320 000km mitsubishi .I have flush the oil (cold)and noticed it was very viscous,it was the oil used by the previous owner in NH.(always changed at the dealer)
I have change the oil for 0w30 and it has cut a lot the noise and cranking needed before starting at cold temperature.

 

upgrade your starter wire and or your battery

 

Yeah once and a while mine will do that, but it always starts.

 

I have noticed mine does that from time to time. It has happened in the cold and when it is warm, so I don't think it is temperature related.

 

I don't need to upgrade starter and all wires are like new. It was just a problem of viscosity and probably this engine was more noisy because if I'm right it as a timing chain.

 

I noticed that my truck did the same thing, several turns of the starter before it would fire. Seems fine though.
