At least it wasn't any worst, and nobody was hurt (minus the dog).

Have you considered getting a small trailer for your ATV? I used to haul a Yamaha Rhino in the back of my previous work truck. After pondering the possibilities if I ever had to jab the brakes I decided to get a small dump trailer that made loading and unloading a breeze. The trailer didn't cost much either, just under a grand. A whole hell of a lot safer than in the back of the truck.

It just seems to me like the Tacoma is a little too small to safely haul a large ATV, especially the short beds.

Good luck with the repairs and such.

    Does the trailer have brakes?

I hate to say it, but when I'm towing I dont pull emergency stops for much of anything. If it was a human, forget the trailer, I'll jack knife it all day long, but the dog would have to make do. I would only be hitting the brake as much as I deemed 'safe.'

Either way, It would have been a crappy situation for you.
