Carrier Bearing that lasts?

X2 perfect examples of everyone in this thread who didnt go OEM the first time

 

Serious question - other than suspension, is there anything on these trucks that OEM isn't best for?

 

You have to suck it up and pay for OEM. I made the mistake of buying a Dorman.

 

Not so serious answer - I would't buy OEM bumpers

 

I didn't think the OEM one was all that great to begin with so I couldn't justify spending 3x as much for a crappy setup. I'm still looking to find a greasable bearing that is a direct bolt in replacement.

 

If your original failed, and a replacement failed in that manner, I would be looking at something CAUSING the carrier to fail. Imbalance in driveshaft, incorrect driveline angle, etc.

You also have the option of a Tom Woods custom one piece driveshaft. My issues with my CB came from improper driveline angles so I can't say the Dorman was junk but the OEM CB is definitely better quality compared to the Dorman. I ended up installing 2* shims to correct my pinion angle and no longer have any vibe issues. One thing I learned is that all trucks will not handle the same when you start adding lift components. Even with a TW one piece you may have vibes and have to adjust pinion angle. All you can do is try one remedy, if that doesn't work then you may have to try another until you get the results you like. It sucks but that is the price you pay when you add lift components.

I had a 1 piece from tom woods already. The problem with 1 pieces, is the fact they are unstable at high speeds. Tom woods aknowledges that, and they realize toyota had some intelligence when they designed the 2 piece.

It wobbled like a bastard at highway (75mph) speeds. It was LESS voilent, with the 2 piece OEM and dogshit carrier bearing...

 

I saw that thread but it's not a direct bolt in replacement. It drops the location of the carrier quite a bit in the process so if you're not lifted or not lifted very much, that's not a great option unless you want to redo the mounts. A local member redid his cross member so it mounted a greasable bearing like that upside down and kept it in the same spot.

 

I had mine up to about 85 mph and it felt fine (albeit, it wasn't a TW one piece but it was made by a local drive shaft shop).

 

I can't speak for Tow Woods, because I do not know their product, But I have seen trucks with one-piece drive shafts almost 6 foot long running with no vibration at higher than "legal" speeds.

 

There is a highway with an 85 mph speed limit I've been on here in Tx, but to reiterate what you were saying, the 1 piece got rid of 95% of my vibes when I had it installed.

 

That confirms my saying that every truck will not respond or handle the same as others with identical components. For example I installed an identical lift as another member on here, he did not have to install axle shims but I did. Other people have had good results with a TW. The key is find what remedies your vibe issues.

I have 2x failed dorman carrier bearings since October and was looking for a spicer bearing for my truck (04', 2.7L, 4x4, AT, ext cab) and cant seem to find a good fit. Rockauto doesn't seem to have any decent quality bearings and Im pretty sick of taking my driveshaft apart. Anyone have a cheap alternative to buying the OEM carrier bearing direct form the taco dealership? They want close to 300bucks.

 

What can I say my original is around 250,000 .

I would pay $300.00 for another 20 years you might want to shop some more my price comes in at less then $200.00
