Blackberries

Ok guys, i need some input from you avid blackberry users. I am gettin a blackberry this month and have narrowed it down to 2 models. The Pearl (the new upgraded one with the 2 mp camera) and the Curve. i have done my fair share of reseach so i know the major differences. the Curve has a built in GPS and a full keyboard and the pearl has the 2 letters on each button deal goin on. i have read alot of complaints about teh pearl's keyboard and that the curve is better for typing. But i have a friend that went from a Pearl to a Curve and said after you get use to it the Pearl is actually faster. Mainly because it has the "auto complete" function. so if you want to type out "appartment" you just have to hit the first few letters then enter and it will it will fill in the word. i know from personal experience i can type pretty damn fast with a regular t9 phone. So like i said, i know the major differences, but i want some personal feedback form TW users. what do you have? what do you like/dislike about it? are there any software/programming differences etc... thanks for your input

 

I have the Curve, and my wife has the Pearl. I personally like the Curve better. The bigger screen and longer battery life is very nice. Plus the full keyboard is much easier since I use quite a few terms in my work that are not in the normal dictionary. With the Pearl you have to spell these out and then add them to the dictionary. I never really use cell phone cameras.

My wife LOVES her Pearl. She has only had it two weeks, and (while she is frustrated with typing on it) she uses the crap out of it. She likes the size of the phone, but she still doesn't really like the keyboard. I think that once she gets accustomed to it she will love it.

The most important thing to know about any Blackberry is the steep learning curve. With all those features packed into one device, you are constantly doing trial and error (or being a manual browser) to figure out how to get it to do what you want. Once you get it down - there is no replacement.

Last weekend my wife used the 'voice recorder' option on the Pearl to record the sea lions at SeaWorld San Antonio. Now she has that as a ringtone for when her father calls!

 

awesome. thanks for the feedback Mark. i like the size of the pearl, and i think i can get use to the keyboard. my buddy that has it said for the first week all you want to do is put it in the blender but after that he said he can type way faster than on a qwerty keyboard. i heard the curve has a better battery life which may make me lean towards it. i also heard it is faster for web browsing for some reason. not sure if this is true or not. is the programming and apps the same for each phone or are there any slight differences?

 

I am sure there are some app differences, but I am not familiar with what they are. My wife has only had her Pearl for two weeks, and while I have had my Curve since January - I haven't had any time to really play around with it (much like my lack of time on TW ).

I will say that the Curve is definitely faster at browsing the Web. It is also easier to pull up large images with. I like the profile of the Pearl, but the Curve fits in my pocket with ease. They are both really great phones.

i got a question. as long as i'm not on a crowded road or street, i can text while i'm driving (i know its stupid but i do it anyway). But i can use one hand while i text. i know you can do that with the Pearl, can you do that with the Curve or is the keyboard to hard to use with one hand (i know what this sounds like but please keep your masterbation jokes to yourself)

 

do you know if they have 3g and wifi? that would be a plus too.... i was deciding between getting a bb curve or a nokia n95, decided finally over the n95

 

i dont know what ATTs data service is called but im not sure about wifi. i want to say no but im not possitive

 

I can text with one hand on my curve without a problem. Well, sorta... I still have to look at the keys every once in a while to make sure I am hitting the right ones.

I try not to do it while I am driving since I am never alone on the roads (morning = deer / afternoon = cars). I do however try to text and carry a drink in my hand all the time. Problem is - the more drinks I have the harder it is to keep the Blackberry in my hand. I don't get it.

Ok here's another random question. is there a benefit to a Palm Treo over a blackberry? I was looking at them and they are way more expensive but dont seem to have all the functionality of a blackberry and they are ugly as hell (no offense to treo users). what is the benifit of these devices? why are they so much more expensive?

 

I have a blackberry Curve its okay but it all depends on what you want i like the phone but it does not do all the things i want it to like opening files in emails i do this alot and it is pretty much impossible on the curve such files as excel some adobe's and word are not able to open on this phone with a palm treo it has windows mobile which i miss very much you can open anything you want and to me a little more simple to use then the blackberrys but it all depends on what you want it for if its just to text and send and recieve emails then it is a pretty good phone and the gps sysytem on the curve only works when you are on a 3g network which you wont find every where the edge is not fast enough to support it

 

i read somewhere that blackberries COULD open standard windows documents and files

 

no i wish it would make my life alot easier. I not sure what carrier you have but if its att wireless i would go with the Moto Q global to me its way better then the blackberrys for about the same price

thats a pretty hard choice i have worked for both. They both have very good networks but i guess it all depends on what you are looking for.

 

i did alot of researching and depending on the site i looked at verizon one be ranked #1 with ATT right behind it, or vice versa. i've had verizon for the past 5 years and i think they have been too big for too long. they are too comfortable. they're customer service sucks and when i told htem my contract was running out and i was thinking about ATT they were like "ok". and i asked if they would do anything to keep my business and the guy was like "not really, but you have been with us for a while so we can give you a $100 credit towards your next phone". Plus Verizon sank alot of money into their retarded "V-cast" network and it seems to me like they are avoiding their voice network. ATT seems to be activly and aggressivly expanding their network. personally i think they are about equal, but i see ATT havin a brighter future. it looks like they are trying hard to be #1. But i'd like to hear what you think of both providers since you have used them both. can you give me some pro's and con's and personal opinions of each?

 

I have Sprint because they work at my house (I live in the hill country). I would have AT&T, but I seem to live in the ONLY hole in their network. AT&T was good to me for years, and since they took on Cingular their customer service has been awesome. I highly recommend AT&T for customer service alone.

Sprint had horrible customer service for the past 5 years, but they are trying to turn that around now as their market share is dropping like a rock. When my wife told them she was leaving (3 shared minute phones and a Air-Link Card) to go to AT&T last month, Sprint slashed her monthly bill from $210 to $100 and got her a Blackberry Pearl. Now we have no excuse to get rid of Sprint.

My phone is through my office, and I don't pay a dime on it. Bad part - being on-call 24/7 means that I always have my phone with me.
