I was out wheeling and heard loud pop from front end. front tires stopped turning but 4x4 was still engaged. Checked transfer case and front diff both still engaging like they should . Anyone have a thought on what broke. I am in the process of tearing down the front diff. This is my first time tearing apart an IFS diff. Any thoughts would help.

Does your front driveline turn in 4wd? Are the cv shafts in tact? Stub shaft is next likely to break. Then ring/pinion or add shaft.

Your sig says 03 so you are probably in wrong section.
However, is your truck with manual hubs ? lift one front wheel with 4x4 engaged and see if you can spin it. If you can something broke.

Front drive line will not turn in 4wd and the cv axles look good. So i'm not worried about the transfer case and the axles. I am about to tear into the diff thanks for the suggestion of the stub shaft being broke.
