AR-15 BS Thread

I built mine with a gas piston system so the chamber stays pretty clean. I just run a bore snake through it after shooting and it stays really clean. Only time I had stuck casings was when it was 110 degrees out in the desert and shooting. Other than that time, my AR hasnt had a stuck casing. My AK has had a few though, and the SKS too. Shit ammo I guess. Just bought a heavy hammer spring so hopefully it will run better now. Thanks for the tips!

 

my ar has had a few stuck cases from Tulammo now i make sure to keep the cleaning rod with me

 

He had to hit my charging handle on my ak with my mosin too.
Second use for a mosin. Clear stuck casing in ak...

Third use. Leverage tool to lift the bolt on another mosin.

I'm looking for a good pistol caliber carbine, any suggestions? What about the conversion kit for the glock?

i think id pick up a sub2k in 9mm and a glock in 9mm then you can use the same mags for both

 

I already have several Glocks and that is kinda the ideal. Has anyone tried the Mechtech upper that you just match with a Glock lower?

 

I have a good amount of experience with building 9mm ARs, if i were to do it again or make a recommendation it would be to buy a 9mm AR and then adjust as you see fit. Then if the damn thing doesnt run right you can send it back to the company rather than spends months and dollars tweaking the combination of parts. It is nothing like the .223/5.56, there really isnt any standard.

 

I've just received a PSA Lower Build Kit for my first build. I acquired an 'AR Complete Assembly Guide' by Kuleck and McKee. In it they stress using roll pin starter punches, particularly for Bolt Catch roll pin insertion, etc. I didn't have a set of these but do have a 36-piece set of Harbor Freight's Security Bit Set, HF still has them for about $6. Radio Shack (you have questions?...we have blank stares) used to carry them too, dunno if they still do or not.

These have a number of bits that seem to accept the roll pins quite readily and excellent for 'starting' these in the holes, then I use my assortment of punches to seat the pin.

 

Make sure you at least consider the 300 BLK. More energy than a pistol, more versatile, and plays nicer in the AR platform. The only specialized part is the barrel. Everything else is off-the-shelf AR15. You can run 220 gr subs and emulate pistol performance or upload it to AK-type ballistics. About the only thing it can't do yet that a pistol carbine can do is deliver a cheap, expanding bullet designed to work at subsonic velocities. 90 gr XTP might be the closest at this point.

 

I have an AR in 223/5.56 the whole reason for wanting a 9mm or .40 is so I can buy bulk ammo for both my rifle and my sidearm. I would prefer a rifle that tanks Glock mags because yes I'm a "Glock Guy".

 

Makes sense. I considered a pistol carbine for a long time but I came to the conclusion that it was a lot of expense to build a gun that shoots the same thing as my much smaller/lighter pistol. I couldn't justify it, even as an SBR.

You might consider SBRing a Glock & running one of the conversions. Nothing is going to be more reliable with a Glock mag than a Glock.

 

I have been thinking about that but I don't know anyone who has experience with a conversion. Kinda scares me.
