I just heard that brakes are full of asbestos!!! Does that mean that every time I wash my truck, I am being exposed to it? Like when I clean the rims? I have an 08, with oem brakes. Is that still an issue today? Really worried

Older pads used to contain asbestos. They still have to put the warnings on new sets of pads to cover their asses in case you take apart the brakes on an '86 Chevy and inhale a bunch of the dust. Newer brake pads are typically either ceramic or semi-metallic, which should be asbestos-free.

So does that mean I can keep cleaning my truck worry free? Or should I take precautions, like wearing gloves and a respirator?

Asbestos isn't an issue unless it's being disrupted/broken/damaged causing dust that can get into the lungs.

Asbestos is everywhere, if you live in a house older than 50 years old you very likely are sitting near some.

There are a lot of particles that are harmful if inhaled to certain extents. Even baby powder. When washing your wheels, you use a hose presumably so you shouldn't be getting any dust airborn in the process. Don't worry about it and continue to clean your wheels as you always have.

Nope, got a house that 17 years old. Looks like this isn't that big of an issue.

I was more worried about getting it on my hands and clothes when I wipe the wheels down.

My stepdad has been a diesel mechanic for 35years and he always says if asbestos is as bad as people make it seem he'd be dead a long time ago. And like it was said earlier usually when your washing you hose everything down so any dust no matter what the source is no longer dust.

They use to use asbestos in playground equipment too. I don't think they do it anymore though. They use to use it in older houses. Not sure till what decade though. I guess that it would depend on what country you're in.

Then I guess it'd be more like touching a cigarette... the real danger is inhalation.

Funniest clip I've ever seen!! I was just shocked because I thought it was harmless until someone told me be careful. I started thinking about all those drive way car washes I did and had no concern.

siding, laminant flooring, the white squares that often tile ceilings and walls in older houses, duct work, it's everywhere. We aren't allowed to burn/train in an abandoned house until we do an asbestos inventory of it and get it all removed by a professional contractor...PITA.

My understanding is the dust that asbestos creates (microscopicly) has little hooks that stick to your lungs and you can't cough it out.
