I assume since it gives a vacuum reading, its a negative vacuum that is detected and is interpreted as boost. as if left on the metric unit inches of mercury is the unit used (a positive vacuum read). It has a sensor on a vacuum is all I can come up with. I don't understand why newer models don't monitor that but it seems to be the consensus

But, again, w/o a MAP sensor how is this possible? What sensor is reading vacuum if not a MAP?

Hello all, Im glad to see that a lot of progress was made determining the PID equation for tarnny temps in 2006-2013 Tacomas. I see there are some people that say they have tranny temp for 1st gen tacomas, but Im having difficulty getting a reading on my 2000 tacoma prerunner (V6).

Can someone that is getting good transmission temp readings on a 1st Gen Auto please post the PID equation/parameters that they are using?

    Thanks a bunch!

    This is for the 05-09

Did you use the 21D9 PID equation below?

    For sensor 1 (Pan Temp):

    OBD2 Mode and PID:
    21D9
    Long Name:
    Transmission Fluid Temperature 1
    Short Name:
    TFT 1
    Minimum Value:
    0.0
    Maximum value:
    220.0
    Scale factor:
    x1
    Unit Type:
°F (there is a degree symbol in Torque)
    Equation:
    ((((E*256)+F) * (7/100) – 400)/10)
    OBD Header to use:
    left blank

For sensor 2 (Converter outlet temp):

    OBD2 Mode and PID:
    21D9
    Long Name:
    Transmission Fluid Temperature 2
    Short Name:
    TFT 2
    Minimum Value:
    0.0
    Maximum value:
    220.0
    Scale factor:
    x1
    Unit Type:
°F (there is a degree symbol in Torque)
    Equation:
    ((((G*256)+H) * (7/100) – 400)/10)
    OBD Header to use:
    left blank

And this is for 10+ trucks

Ok I think i figured it out for the 2010+ Tacoma

    For sensor 1 (Pan Temp):

    OBD2 Mode and PID:
    2182

    Long Name:
    Transmission Fluid Temperature 1

    Short Name:
    Trans 1

    Minimum Value:
    0.0

    Maximum value:
    300.0

    Scale factor:
    x1

    Unit Type:
    °F

    Equation:
    ((((A*256)+B) * (7/100) – 400)/10)

    OBD Header to use:
    left blank

For sensor 2 (Converter outlet temp):

    OBD2 Mode and PID:
    2182

    Long Name:
    Transmission Fluid Temperature 2

    Short Name:
    Trans 2

    Minimum Value:
    0.0

    Maximum value:
    300.0

    Scale factor:
    x1

    Unit Type:
    °F

    Equation:
    ((((C*256)+D) * (7/100) – 400)/10)

    OBD Header to use:
    left blank

I'm going to set the truck into the Diagnostic Mode to check and see if the numbers match up. If the PID and equation are correct, the A/T Temp light should light up at 115°F and start flashing at 130°F.

I keep doing custom ROMS. Forget to back up my data for Torque, and when I wipe my device I need to setup the app all over again.

    Thanks for the info..

What I'm trying to say is the distance to empty is off and not even close. And I'm having a hard time trying to get it right. I Havnt messed with it in a while trying to figure it out.

I didn't go through the whole thread, but I looked some and didn't find any, and I tried the codes for the 2nd gen and they don't work.

when I try inputting the codes it would not take the equation values and keeps telling me this message; equation: check parentheses. Anybody know what is going on here?

Do these codes work with the free version copy of Torque?

    I have a 2005 Tacoma 4.0, 6cyl

I have a '99 4Runner (3rd generation) which is very similar to 1st Gen Tacomas... I have the iPhone app "Engine Link" which also allows for custom PIDs. Try this one, it worked for me:

    OBD2 Mode and PID: 01B4
    Long Name: Transmission Fluid Temperature
    Short Name: TFT
    Minimum Value: 0.0
    Maximum value: 300.0
    Scale factor: x1
    Unit Type: °F
    Equation: A*(9/5)-38
OBD Header to use: 0 (I put in zero for my iPhone's "Engine Link" app. You might need to leave it blank for Torque)
