Yeah. The mileage does make me a bit nervous. Any suggestions? I need a Double Cab. 05 or newer. That's when the backseat got roomier, if I'm right.

    Everything got a bit bigger.
The 2nd Gen is about halfway between a 1st Gen Tacoma and 1st Gen Tundra.

Thought about a Tundra as well. Just not sure which direction to go. Need enough room to haul the kids around. Thought a Tacoma may be more reliable. Want to keep this thing forever.

Either one will last forever, but if you go Tundra, get one a couple of years into the line. They've had quite a few recalls and TSBs. The first 5.7 engines had a problem with breaking a camshaft.

If you go 1st Gen Tundra, it's a great truck and gets better mileage than the 2nd Gen, but the 4.7 does need a new timing belt every 90k, and it's an interference engine, so if the belt goes, the heads are scrap.

are you considering only 4x4? cuse i think that is another factor that keeps the price of the used trucks sky high

Yes. I live in PA. I would prefer a 4x4.

    Quite true.

Brand new 2014 DoubleCab, base MSRP:
    5-Lug 2WD = $24,320 (automatic trans, basic convenience package)
    5-Lug 2WD = $25,640 (automatic trans, SR5 package)
Prerunner 2.7 2wd = $24,920 (automatic trans, basic convenience package)
    Prerunner 2.7 2wd = $26,240 (automatic trans, SR5 package)
    Prerunner 4.0 2wd = $28,430 (automatic trans, SR5 package)
    4x4 4.0 = $31,555 (automatic trans, SR5 package)

The base convenience package is not available on the 4x4.
All have keyless entry, cruise, and steering wheel audio controls.

So the cheapest option in 4x4 is over $3100 more than a Prerunner with the same engine and trim package.
If you're willing to accept a 2.7, then you can go as much as $5,915 cheaper for a 5-Lug and still have the same SR5 trim package.

I got those prices off of the Toyota site.
The price on the 4x4 includes the SR5 Extra Value Package, which is over $2000, and the 4x4 is not available without it.

As I found out when shopping for my wife's '00 Echo and '04 Rav4, Edmunds will allow you to assemble options packages that are not produced, or not available in your area.
Sometimes the dealer can make adjustments, like she wanted the deck lid lip on her Echo, which wasn't available on the option package we got (stripped). Longo agreed to install it for her.
On the Rav4, she liked the Limited, but wanted the hood scoop from the Sport. Didn't happen ;)

To be completely accurate, I'd have to re-run that using the OP's zip code. Those are the prices and packages available in LA.

A lady came into my work the other day with a '05 Access Cab, had over 250,000 miles on it, and she told me it runs just as good as the day she bought it from the dealership
