you are right, ive been lucky. Apparently really lucky :)

good news when i pushed it that far is used to usually have a gas can.. I try to not push it anymore.

I thought i read somewhere in the past it was 21.5, thats why i put .1-.5 because i couldnt remember :)

the most i have put in my current tacoma is just under 21

You filled the spare tire with gas?

That's one (of many things) I miss about my '06 Duramax.

54 gallons of Diesel at 18+ mpg in a 3/4 ton 4x4 crew cab and more power than I could ever use....

Ya, but at 7lbs per gallon, the extra 1400lbs will slam your mileage.

Just wanted to let people know that there is always extra space in your gas tank. It is for expansion so on days when you have great changes in temperature your gas tank does not burst. You can never fill it completely to the top. When you get close that is when you hit the vent to the charcoal canister. Don't overfill your tank.

The gas pickup is always pulling from the bottom so there is no accumulation of crap on the bottom like you seem to be imagining.

I am paying 3.55/gal damn.. it takes me once every two days to fill 14-15 gals to fill the tank. I dont like to get the tank to be near flume level .. wishfull to have a deisel in that taco.. then it would take 2 weeks to fill that baby ( a wild guess).

Nahh... At best, an oil burner might run 30-35mpg for most drivers.

Significant savings, but it's not a bottomless tank.

My Duramax was 2500 pounds heavier than my Tundra, and 4x4 Crew Cab.... got about 18, same as the Tundra. A gas version of the same truck would have been at around 12-14 for that year (the '08 models jumped considerably with a new trans and engine controls).

Good point. And for what its worth I have only ever topped my tank off to see what it wouod hold and it was always on drives where it won't stay for any period of time. Otherwise I just let it pump till it stops.

    Smart.

That extra 1/4-1/2 gallon you might squeeze into the neck is going to get you a whole 5 miles, and that assumes that you run the tank dry.

Considering the charcoal canister is over $300, definitely not worth it.

This brings up a good point...

What kind of difference do you guys think there is in MPG between an empty tank and carrying a full tank? Is is practical to fill up only half-way each time if the gas station isnt too far out of your way when you fill up?

    Just a thought...I'm cheap

    Half a tank is 70lbs.

Going to be a minimal difference.
I add almost 5 times that with my wife in the passenger seat.

I actually used to top it off in the old beater.. when I got my first tacoma with all of the emissions bs on it was when I learned about the charcoal canister and that I could ruin it...

Thanks to my friends nissan titan.. whatever the issue was with his filler neck and charcoal canister it cost him something like 500 bucks.. so I lucked out and learned from my friends hard way method :)

Last night I accidentally ran the tank completely dry as i was pulling into the station (had to get out and push it like 10 feet) and when i filled up, the fuel pump said I put 21.39 gallons in. So its IS more that 21.1 gallons.

Wow, you are paying 3.85 a gallon. Here it is 2.80 a gallon for off brand and 2.95 for name brand regular and about and about .40 more for premium.
