Stupid headlight burned out.

I just replaced my old factory original lights last year. I was on my way to an interview and wouldn't you know one of them was already burned out? That seems wrong.

 

These are the old school sealed beam lights. So you can't touch them. It just seems crazy to me that a headlight could burn out in one year versus the previous 13 the originals lasted.

 

non-OEM parts never last as long as OEM, but 1 year is pretty bad, are they cheap? I got a pair of sylvania silverstar sealed beams on another toyota of mine and one them finally burned out after 5 years and they are bright as hell, I wouldn't use any other sealed beam again!

 

I finally had one burn out about this time last year and had to replace the stock bulb so I replaced both of them with those super bright white or whatever they are I think sylvania and they lasted about 6 months and both went out about a week apart and I was very careful not to touch the lens so who knows!

 

HMMM. Could it have been a short or something. Wouldn't think iit would be a fuse since just one went out. Doesn't hurt to check though.

i just got pulled over 20 minutes ago because my passenger headlight is out
i replaced it last freaking week

it was a $9 sylvania from Autozone; but, i was hoping for more than a week

anyone got an idea of what the deal is?
i'm not the smartest person in the world; but, there's literally only way one you can hook these things up
(1st Gen - solid sealed assembly; so, no, i didn't touch the bulb)

just shined a flashlight inside the assembly; it's definately blown all to pieces, not just burned out

seems to me like if i'm getting power surges strong enough to blow bulbs i'd likely be snapping a fuse too (first?)
also seems like it wouldn't just be that one side (passenger), if that was the case

think this is just a lemon $9 headlight assembly?

I hope I don't keep going through them, cause every time I have to take off the grille, one more of those dinky clips breaks
She's only held on by a few random clips now - gonna have to invest in some zip ties. haha

Welcome to the world of Chinese crap. Start paying attention to how fast light bulbs burn out in your house. Incandescents last about 4 months. CFLs last about 9 months, and I had an LED last one day.

It's either because it is made in China or it's engineered to fail.

 

Change em out again and if it happens again then it could be a short somewhere. But if that was the case I would think a fuse would go out to right? You could always upgrade to some flashtech HIDs. Ive had them in every one of my vehicles and never had a problem.

 

that was extremely helpful, i had never considered noticing how fast bulbs explode into a million pieces in my own household before
i'm sure future alertness to this will solve the mystery of why my tacoma shattered a bulb within a week
it will also greatly save on the amount of money i've been spending to get all of that blood professionally cleaned out of my carpet every month; now that i know where all those shards of glass that i'm always stepping on in the dark are coming from

Yes, that's my thought
I work graveyard and drive almost exclusively in the dark; so, I have to replace it TODAY or I'm getting pulled over again tonight
My only option is getting an OEM from the dealer; or getting another autozone Sylvania special
Guess, which one I'm doing?
