Currently have a '10 Sonata and have had zero problems though I usually only keep them for about 6 years. Have owned 2 other Hyundai's since '84 and had zero problems. I buy Hyundai's for the warranty and dependability and the fact that I don't like car payments.

    Back on topic...

My problem with Fords has always been electrical. Cars and trucks. As much as I would like to drive a big ass truck again, the $$$ to keep the tank full and payments say no.

I always say that EVERY dealer sucks if/when you return for service. Nothing worse than bringing in your shiny new vehicle and having a tech scratch it.

With Toyota, I feel this is less likely to happen as I won't be spending any time at the dealership aside from basic service. I would't hesitate to hop in my '99 Tacoma and drive cross country if I had to. Plenty of faith that she'll be fine.

When I had my Tacoma serviced 2 weeks ago, two techs told me how nice my truck was for the age and one wanted to buy it. I politely said no and thank you. This is not the first time.

Almost a year later after the original post, I still have the Tacoma! Although I still like the fx4, I couldn't give the Tacoma up! I am glad I did not buy the Ford. The new Tundra looks good, but only lifted and with aftermarket wheels. A full size truck would be nice, but I can honestly say the Tacoma hasn't failed me yet. Because of this, I have come to the realization that there is no need to get rid of it---all things considered, it really is the best truck on the market. Wonder what the re-design will bring, whenever it comes out???

Glad to see you came to your senses!

My only regret is that I don't have any regrets about my tacoma.

I do wish I went for the long bed though sometimes. Honestly didn't even know it was an option when I was purchasing.. Haha

Good job you kept the taco, I had 99 & 04 f150 pass 100k miles that's when the repairs begin. Below 60k sure no prob you've got warranty the dealer will take care of it. Pass 100k well... Parts are cheaper and the mechanic will probably give you abit of break on labour knowing you'll be back soon

2x^ my last ford 150 I had in 2007, never had a problem with under it got 987xxx miles on it. problems started to kick in It would have cost me close to 4 grand to get it running again.. not worth it SO comes along the taco.
Its would be nice to have a full size truck if you have the needs for it( towing a large trailer, etc) for what I doing just travel to my job and back, backroad of my hunting stand, light towing.. so the taco fit in .
If I need a full size.. I take the dodge before the chevy.

    Some stuff...
One of the deciding factors for me was a manual trans. I think most full size trucks (except some of the diesels) are automatic only. Of the domestic trucks that I test drove, the Dodge was probably my fav but I hear they depreciate like rocks.

Not sure what the hate on Ford is. Check out my ecoboost build thread, and guess how much I paid for it. The price difference between the F150 and the taco were negligible to make a decision like I did. Then again I live in Houston where there is at least 15 Ford dealers, so they are a dime a dozen here.

I wouldn't knock Ford to when it comes to the F-150 or Ranger. I think that they are great trucks. That truck(F-150) would have been my second choice if I didn't get a Tacoma. 2 Years ago when I got my first Tacoma, a co-worker had bought a F-150 just after I got my Tacoma. It rode nice and everything. I just didn't like how much space was around me, it was a lot. That's what turns me off from a Tundra. Ford does make great vehicles. Their quality is sure better than other manufactures.

Got that right. I've owned a few Rangers and F-150s and have never bought one with less than 120,000 miles. Beat the shit out of them and still run like new.

I hunt a lot and the trails and woods on my land is just too thick for the huge 150 and had a kid so still needed 4 doors. Tacoma was the best option.

Truck is OK only because I was able to find one cheap (DC LB V6 4x4 TRD Sport), but I have NEVER owned a truck that has so many damn design flaws and shakes, shimmies, squeaks, clunks, etc, etc, etc... I mean damn, you have to spend as much time and money fixing all the flaws and bullshit as you pay for them just to get them somewhat trouble free and reliable.

Then you look on all Tacoma forums and 90% of all posts is about something wrong w their truck, and sorry but you got some clueless dipshit talking about some other manufacturers quality. Give me an fn break.

Every Ford truck I've owned, just buy it, change the oil and beat the crap out of it. None of this, oh this has to be fixed, that has to be fixed, I have to spend $999,000 to get the suspension to work descent and body armor to replace flimsy sheet metal and plastic so it won't fall apart on the trail. I am exited about doing things to my truck for I am I car guy and probably built more cars that most have driven and this is the first 4x4 that I've ever HAD to do so many things to. Sorry, rant over...going to work on my truck now.

Finally a realist. I hate it when people are so butt hurt about others voicing their opinions. Not every truck is the same and everyone has different needs, wants, and taste for that matter. Just wanted to let you you know I enjoyed the rant. Lol

LOL, Thanks bro. Like the armor BTW. I need to get some bad. I backed up into pine sapling yesterday and bent mine all up. Pathetic, sapling wasn't big or stiff enough to make a Brim Buster out of but was able to bend my bumper into the side of my damn truck. I bare handed grabbed the bumper and bent it back out. Sarcasm coming..."Oh yeah, I only payed 28,500 for my tin can and that was a steal". I was mad when I paid 15k for mine.

I love all the Toyota fan boy comments from the pavement queens in this thread.

    Made my night

Anyone who thinks everything Toyota makes is superior than any other brand is plain wrong.

*step away from the cool aid*

If you combined the recall and TSB lists 05+ Tacoma's have it would wrap around the globe..... everything from engines sucking coolant into the cylinders to dropping out of the engine bays.

    Bad suspension
    Bad engine gaskets
    Bad body's and paint
    Bad frames

Sounds super reliable to me

LOL at Fords only needing an oil change!

Anyway, all brands have issues. There is no brand of vehicle out there without its own quirks and issues.

Also, the reason we know about most of these issues is because we are on a popular Tacoma site, with a lot of members. There is also a lot of members that don't have a ton of issues. I bet the average Tacoma owner not on any forum is none the wiser, and goes about his or her life just enjoying the Tacoma. If you wheel any vehicle its going to break.

The reason we know about all these issues is because everyone has them. There is NO other truck w as many design flaws and issues as what our trucks have period. That being said, I'm going to finish fixing my junk and enjoy it.

Fords hold no comparison to Toyota. I owned one for 13 years and nothing but problems problems problems. They are plastic.
