Having just came from a Ford (03 Sport Trac XLT Premium) I can give a non biased view. IN the 8 years I have the truck (bought used with low miles) and 168K miles when I traded it last month ALL that was needed maintenance wise was a Thermostat housing, alternator, all new shocks, brakes, rotors, and 5th and 2 gear died on the auto tranny and had to be rebuilt at 160K miles. So for 8 years not too bad and I do not baby my vehicles. I traded it only because it was getting up in miles and a Toyota is known for resale and longevity and thats what I am looking for now! I have more peace of mind knowing that what I just purchased will last me 20+ years.

I don't care about why you didnt buy another Ford, the subject is a different story. I don't have regrets about my Tacoma, nor have I or had 90% of the issues talked about. :notsure:

In 20 years you'll need 2 new frames, 3 paint job, 4 sets of wheel bearings, 4 sets of bushings, New rear bumper if not 2, 3 sets of axle bearings, 3 New rear sets of drums, etc

My buddy use to have a 90's Ranger XLT. He bought it when it around 100,000 km's. I can't remember how long he had it or when he sold it. I just remember it had over 150,000 km's on it. Not a single thing wrong with it, he always did his own maintenance etc. He knew everything about the truck. He had sold the truck to a close friend of his. For the year is friend had owned he messed up the brakes(didn't change them when he got the truck like he was suppose to). Never changed the oil or maintenance. He treated the truck like crap. My buddy told me that he wished he never sold it because it was such a great truck. His friend sold it just after that year. My buddy bought an 08' Ranger FX4(new) and has never had any issues, again, he does all his own maintenance. He said he's going to run the truck till it dies.

So all you guys with all these issues, and all this money sunk into your Tacomas, why keep it? Why not trade it in on a (insert your favorite brand here) instead?

I love blanket statements that have no facts to back them up. That's science right there...

And lets also add the simple, proven fact that if indeed Tacomas were as bad a s couple are saying their resale wouldnt be about the best there is. Now my Sport Trac....I got $4000 in on trade for a 10 year old vehicle. sad.

Just because you don't know any better doesn't mean it's not a fact, although I will say that they are neck and neck with the newer shit-fillets. They do have a lot of issues also.
