you should start going into a netted batting cage or something for your maiden voyages lol.

since there was a little flamewheel talk earlier......

was back at the rc shop today looking at a big ol' 1/5 scale, 2 stroke buggy. took a picture of the assembled 350 they have sitting out. pretty darn tiny.

Nice! all the monster jam trucks are cool little deals. "budget" trucks by traxxas standards, but very fun. get yourself a set of good tires (with foams) for it and it'll be a whole new vehicle.

this is thebuggy i'm checking out (on the left). it's abotu 3 feet long and runs a wheed whacker motor :burnrubber:

Im sure Ill be upgrading parts on mine as they break or as I get bored. Ive already placed several aluminum items to replace the stock plastic ones in my Amazon cart.

I don't know if you're new or well seasoned in the rc truck world, but be careful with aluminum parts, depending on where they go. aluminum a-arms on anything over abotu 1/18 scale starts to get dangerous. in a crash, the arms hold up, but you snap the chasis. look into a company called RPM. then make plastic replacements that are damn near bulletproof compared to stock, but won't snap your truck in two. aluminum shock towers, gear houstings, etc are great though.

RPM is plastic. i think it's technically nylon actually, but it's much stronger than the ABS parts that come stock.

If you are going to upgrade a arms, go rpm and don't look back. If you want to do anything aluminum, do diff housings, knuckles, and other centrally located parts. Keep the arms as the weak link. They are the easiest part to replace

Aaaargh! I hate waiting for stupid props to come in! I made it roughly 50 flights before I did one in though. The props that I do have ended up having the wrong size hole. Blah. I want to be flying...

waiting on parts sucks. I got 12 extra props for each quad at the same time I bought them. just got a new truck today too, and I think I spend over $100 on just replacement parts, before the truck even came out of the box.

Hey Kevin... Just saw this so sorry for taking so long to get back to you...

The bigger and heavier the aircraft is the more stable it will fly in gusty winds... I guess the question for you is do you want to build one or do you want to have it built already and ready to fly....

Reliable Ready to fly options are fairly limited.... DJi phantom, Blade 350 QX or 3DR Iris (which is still developmental).

I would avoid flame wheel due to the spongy arms but that's me

Thanks for the insight, Mike. Maybe I should just buy a RTF for my first real one and then take it from there. I was liking the DJI phantoms but read somewhere that you cant really upgrade them. Does that statement hold true?

what kind of upgrades are you looking to do? better motors are redily available that bolt right up. you can get a different flight controller that should be pretty easy to fit in the factory location. aftermarket GPS would be pretty easy, especially with an external antenna. they make carbon fiber battery trays the hold two batteries and allow more space for mounting other equipment outside of the shell. there are also a couple of aftermarket prop options.

Lots up upgrades, just have to be more creative with the mounting, compared to an open style machine like what mike builds.

    Sounds good.

I just found this gem. It looks badass with the carbon body!
