What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Hmm, should probably check mine before I drive 13 hours here soon...

 

And on a non-shocking note, I'm going to check my LBJ bolts today as well.

Just have to wait until it warms up a bit.

 

I haven't had any issues with my LBJs thank the Lord, but Maybe I should just put in new ones and use the Lincoln installation method....

 

Sprayed my storage hatch covers with some bed liner. Was not happy with them being white.

 

Anybody know the dimensions of the bolts? I'm probably going to go buy a few to have on hand...

 

If memory serves they are 12mm fine pitch.

 

So I checked and my LBJ bolts are fine.

But I have questions:

On my driver's side, there's a lot of gunk build up around the ball joint. Is that bad/leaking? The passenger side was pretty clean and I could see a normal looking bead of grease around the joint.



Secondly, I noticed this boot is cracking on my passenger side thingamabobby. It's the piece that comes out of the steering gear and connects to the wheel assembly via a nut and cotter pin. Should I be worried about this thing? And could you tell me the real name of it?

 

I've seen about 342 thingamabobbies so far on my Toy. I think that's just what they are.

 

Pretty sure the boot for your LBJ is busted/cracked. I'd just check it periodically, add some grease and make sure there's no rust or debris in there that could wear out the ball joint faster.

Other part is the tie rod end. If your alignment and steering feels fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Needless to say I check those bolts regularly now...

 

Most if not all LBJ boots have a hole to release grease when theres too much pressure on the boot. Its not a big deal if you lose some grease

 

Mine has those protective covers over the boots too. I think Toyota added them when they did the recall.

If I'm not mistaken the bolts for the lbj are
m10 1.50thread x 35 or 40mm

 

red heads process sun light differently we dont need as much as you. in fact if we get too much sun we can actually become deficient from over exposure because it will damage what has been processed...we also process pain very differently and when we have surgery it takes more anesthesia to put a red head to sleep.

 

Here's the Toyota part number for those bolts. Monte already has dibs on my spares haha
