Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
good looking taco.. a little pale, but meh :)

it looks cold and miserable in the pic..

OP, don't screw around with just anyone at the dealership, even so called managers. You will/are wasting your time.

I would find out who the actual owner of the dealership is and make a private appointment with him/her. Don't tell them your last name or the reason for the appointment other than it's something like: "to have a discussion about the dealership"...

    Go strait to the top.

Then when in the meeting, tell him your entire story. Then see what he says...

I've done this a couple times over the years with "issues" and you find out very quickly what kind of dealership you are dealing with and whether or not you will ever deal with them again!

I will NEVER buy another Honda or vehicle from ANY deaship that is owned by Manse Binkley who is the currnet owner of Harmony Honda and Harmony Acura in Kelowna. My meeting with him told me verything I needed to know about how they treat young customers. I was 21 at the time and actually brought my father to the meeting so Manse knew I was serious about it. Guy was/is a total idot and his entire staff had the same attitude.

First off, as the OP found out, it was NOT the dealer tech that made the mistake, it was a 3rd party installer. I take extreme exception to your comments about dealership techs. I worked for dealerships for over 20 years as a tech, and as an instructor and I can tell you two things right off that should be obvious to you, or anyone else. 1: Dealership techs are usually much more knowledgeable about their product than many aftermarket repair shops because of the constant training that goes on. and 2: Humans can make mistakes just like everyone else. I am sure in your life you have made mistakes in your job. It happens. You comment about lying is insulting to say the least. In my 20+ years as a dealer tech, and almost 4 years of owning my own shop I have NEVER lied to a customer, or attempted to deceive them. I did not allow it for any of the techs that worked for me either. I always was up front with the customer, even if a mistake was made. Then I took care of the mistake.

Look at the good side, if any here. They did tell you that they have had some problems with the systems before. I feel that after them being this up front with you they will take care of the remote start issue. I would ask that they extend some extra courtesy to you with having to deal with a problem that was a result of a third party installation. Perhaps a couple of free oil changes or discounts on aftermarket parts purchases? You have been inconvenienced, and at the least, considering the distance the dealer is from you, should be compensated. This is not Toyota's fault, but rather a "dealer/3rd party" problem that should be taken care of.

Well you must be the exception then.

I wouldn't let most dealer techs rake my leaves, let alone touch my truck.

And everyone knows that car dealers lie. It's their job!!

What part of Labrador are you in? I spent the first four years of my life in Goose Bay and worked a summer in Lab City. Also, have you tried those tires in the snow yet?

I will leave well enough alone then before I say something I shouldn't. You are obviously biased and misinformed. I am far from the exception. In 20 years I have NEVER worked for a dishonest dealership, and have only seen one dishonest tech, and he was fired as soon as I found out. (Wasn't even a customer vehicle, but theft of dealership property that he got caught doing)

When I speak of dishonesty, I'm talking about the sales staff (mostly).

I'm in Lab City, originally from Corner Brook on the island. I had the tires on for 3 days before this happened so unfortunately, no. They're the new Goodyear Adventure's with Kevlar. Hoping they will be alright in the snow, I'm sure I will find out relatively soon!

    Yeah.
Like some other people mentioned, the dealer contracted with the 3rd party to add the remote start option. You contracted with the dealer for the option, not the 3rd party. The 3rd party is irrelevant to you -- the dealer should reimburse you and take it up with their chosen 3rd party. That is, unless there was some funky fine print somewhere, which is probably not likely but would not surprise me.

The main problem in this case is that it doesn't sound like you gave the dealer the opportunity to choose how they would fix the problem. A good business would just reimburse you and apologize for the trouble -- the way you got it fixed was probably a lot cheaper than they could have done it.

I would ask them how much they would have had to pay to have your truck transported to and from its current location so they could fix their mistake, and point out that the 300 bones is a bargain.

So you determined it was the remote starter that made the truck kill. I kinda have same problem. Won't start sometimes with key but if I use the remote starter it will.

Big J, the issue with my truck was when they spliced into the wiring harness for the remote start they unplugged the ignition. When they put it all back in the plug didn't clip in, so slowly over a period of 5 months it vibrated apart causing a weak connection to the ignition, which in turn killed the engine.

I haven't had an issue since, and that was October of 2013!
