I'd walk if it looks rusty (although it seems I may have caught you too late) you had to get it inspected back in either 2010 or 2011 (can't quite remember which) to qualify for the frame rust buyback. At this point if it's not already been inspected (the warranty does transfer I believe) you're screwed.

    Sweet. Thats a steal.

Good job, OP as long as that is a clear title and the truck is literally in one piece, you cannot go wrong with getting a Tacoma for $1500.

I love when a deal comes together! Seller said his phone went viral w/this ad. Pays to be the first responder!

No surprises here. Just an honest NC born-SC bred Tacoma that was well-loved.
Frame is rock solid w/not even any surface rust.
Even smells like a Toyota inside the cabin!

As a retired Hospital Corpsman, I'm still giving and getting lots of love from my Marines!:D[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I bought my 2006 single cab AT 2wd new off the lot. It's been a great truck. But this is a 4x4 extra cab! I'm already loving the extra space behind the RECLINING seats! And the 5spd is very natural for me.

But there are some issues w/this "new" truck.

Original clutch is pretty thin and at 207K prolly needs renewal. Rear leaf springs look a bit saggy. Front tires are wearing a bit on the outsides even though she runs smooth at any speed with no shimmy or vibrations.

Factory moonroof needs a seal. Clear duct tape is keeping the rain/water out now. And of course the headliner is shot.

I've got a CEL on and by the odd exhaust smell, leads me to think the CAT is done.

Otherwise, the V6 runs smooth with receipts that show the PO just change the waterpump and timing belt in March. Goodyears are very recent.

I've crawled around underneath and can find NO rust. May still take it to my local Toyo Dlr and have a frame eval done. You never know....

PO had a slip-n-slide and dented the front left bumper/fender last week so I do want to find replacement parts for those.

All in all, I agree that this was a very good score! I just have to decide which Tacoma to keep! Really don't need both.

So I got to drive the 99 xtra cab V6 5 speed for a few weeks. I replaced a bad MAF and straightened out the front bumper. Also, pulled a perfect front left fender and door out of LQK in Charleston- door/fender seam bent and rattle can matched them w/Toyo white-. Replaced a leaky moonroof seal. Power washed and waxed. Drove about 500 miles.

    In comparison to my 06:

The higher stance and longer wheelbase definitely gave me more of a truck feel. The original clutch was ok but it did take some added effort to depress so I suspect it'll need to be replaced soon. A/C was top notch. Wiper action felt 1970ish. Love the real steel bed! Tailgate on this one had bent in the middle when PO loaded a 4 wheeler. Gen 2s gates are beefier and smoother. I enjoy the quick-remove option vs. being bolted on. And what I thought would be the best feature of the xCab (reclining seats) turned out to not be as comfortable/supportive as my bench making me feel more cramped.

I drive on pavement 98% of the time. Never see snow or ice. And live in the city encountering stoplights and traffic. I do prefer the AT. I always seem to be sipping coffee. Sound systems about the same. And I do get better fuel economy with what feels like just as much power.

I bought my 2006 5 lugger off the lot w/2 miles on the odometer. It now has 56K. Oil changes, filters (cabin/air/oil), and gasoline are all that has been required. Finally replaced the original battery after 6 years! Once I shed those dangerous OEM Dunlops and steel wheels for my 15x8s and Firestone Destinations the truck handled like a sportscar. Very fun to drive!

So I decided to sell the 99. First call and buyer drove 5 hours to come get it. Priced it at $5K and settled at $4,500. All in all, a great experience and really just emphasizes how popular these Tacomas are. And I am content knowing that my Gen 2 is really the truck for me! :)
