May be a little overkill for my use these days. There was a time that aggressive tires like the Duratracs were all I ran. Not being able to actually look at the tires, but just photos online makes the choice very difficult. It’s hard to judge them from a photo. I do know from experience that the more aggressive treads wear faster. Compounds may have changed over the years since I’ve had to buy tires, but less aggressive tread should mean longer wear. I drive around 6,000 miles per year, so what ever I buy will last me a while.

I am looking to buy a set of these, i want to stick to stock diameter size on my first gen taco... they dont have them in 265/70/16 so i will go 245/75/16

But is 245 too skinny for a 7.5 in wide rim?

I'm assuming you want to stick to stock size cause you're at stock height?

265 75 16 Duratracs will rub like a *^%$#@! if you run them
Yes, yes, I know certain people run 265 75 16's on stock height 1st Gens without rubbing; but, those people aren't running Duratrac's
And, if they are, and aren't rubbing, then something's not stock somewhere in the equation - I'm sure it can be done with Hawaiian backspacing

I'm a 1st Gen'er at stock height; and I don't want (can't afford) to get into lifting my truck
I'm currently on 31 10.5 15's and would really like to move up to 16's

So, I'm trying to figure this one out too; I know the 265 75 16's will rub severely
But, I don't want to go as thin as 245; not many other options with the 16" Duratracs for a stock 1st Gen

Unless I'm missing something... so, I'm interested in what others have to say about this as well
Speak up stock-height 1st Gen folk

Honestly i dont see the issue with 245 /75 /16's

My chevy 2500HD (a truck that weighs probably 2x as much as a first gen) has those size tires on em and never had an issue.

FYI according to goodyears website 245/75/16's fit on 6.5-8in wide rims... so FJ 7.5in rims will be fine (or stock 7in rims for that matter).

Reason i dont want to go up to 265/75/16's is mainly MPG. the less rolling resistance, less weight, and less height of the 245's probably make for a pretty good difference in mpg.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on these today also. Ordered them from the local Goodyear shop for $950 installed...trying to figure out if I should get the road hazard for the extra $100. Thoughts?

I did. Worth it to me. Especially since I paid over $1200 for mine. Love these tires, but next time around, 285 MTRs tho :D

I never buy road hazard and never needed it. To me it is kind of like buying an extended warranty.

So go 265/75/16 and trim a lot? Get a cheap version of a lift (coils & AAL) -- $300 if you don't want to trim that much? There aren't really any good answers for your issue

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something, like some magically backspaced wheel that would work
    Thanks

Nah not that I'm aware of, it's always one problem or another when it comes to rubbing. No real good answer when you want bigger tires

Before I lifted my front end I test fitted my 265/75-16 duratracs. They are on pro comp 7089s and they have 0 offset. (Which pushes they wheel and tire out away from the frame.) The tires nearly fit with the exception of rubbing while turned at about 90%. I think they were hitting the nubs that protrude out from the mud flap.

I raised the front 1.75" which stopped the mud flap rub. Now they catch the little piece in front of the tire that looks like a mini mud flap, but only in reverse while turned at about 80-90%. I'm just gonna cut the bitches off.

    Thanks, man!
I see from your stats that you've got a 2013; is this the truck your talking about?
If so, it's capable of fitting a larger tire than my 95.5 - I would probably have to go even taller than that
