so here is a thought i just had..

i take it the hole those squeez into is much bigger then a normal polly bushing..yes? maybe?

So..if you have to uncurl your new leaf and wrap more steel around them..won't the leafs not be 1.5'' longer now..

or they about the same size?

Yeah, the body of the orbit eye is almost twice as big as the poly bushing. I bet it takes close to 1.5" more steel to wrap around it. Also, on the last set, Alcan forgot to account for the extra length needed for 3" lift springs... which is about 1.5" as well.

SO... I'm on round #4 now! I think the spring length is actually right this time. Tomorrow, I'll press the bushings in and weld tack weld them to prevent them from coming out. I might get to installing one side's spring tomorrow as well. Then, the rest will get done on Saturday!

One side is done. Here is the new shackle angle:

Suspension is finally in! I haven't gotten much chance to play with it yet, but I think I've already got a solid 3" of additional extension out of it. The springs and bushings need to be broken in, so I think I can get another in or two out of the setup. Here's a couple of pics. Final measurement on the shock was 27"... a big improvement over the previous 23" measurement.

Yeah, tell me about about it!

I think it will loosen up a lot. Those bushings are so tight right now that you can't move them by hand, and the springs are brand new. It took me almost 2 years to really break my pack in, so I'm hoping the springs will give a bit more. Overall, I'd like to max out my shocks at 28".

The truck slid back a bit for that picture, so that's probably at 26" or so. When it's fully drooped the tire is near the bottom of the slider and clear of the body of the truck by a good ways. I just ran down to a local trail head and grabbed a pic before the hikers jumped me. I'll try to get some better pics tomorrow.

Ha! I was so happy I even got close to where you were at, that I didn't even think about the extra inch! (I guess I still think in terms of my old 23" max extension to much)

^you always have to push the limit! Tomorrow, I'm planning or running Iron Clads. Hopefully, I'll be able to click off a good pic or two while I'm out there.

I wanna see them pay off too... after all the drama...

I'm guessing that everything will loosen up and get me a bit more travel... I hope so anyway

Well they are Alcans..so they better flex nice. Every Alcan pack i have seen always flexes great. What mine is..well..mostly..

shouldn't take a lot of break in.

Does it ride any different with the orbits?

Over the road the rear does seems to sway a little bit more, but just a little. Overall, the truck actually feels a little better through the corners than before... just because the front and rear sway match each other.

Off road, the suspension netted me a bit more travel, but it seems a lot smoother over the whole range of motion. Before, I could feel the suspension binding an loading the frame when flexed. Now everything feels more free.

    Only Concern:
The bushings are really tight. I'm hoping that over time, they will be a little easier to move and free the whole system up a bit.

I'm heading up to the hills today... Hopefully I'll find a good spot for more flex pics for ya!

I'm sure they will loosen up a bit. Plus with more weight in the back from gear should help too.

    In for pics

So I wheeled cascade creek today. I made it up an obstacle that I usually need the locker for with open diffs but I didn't get any pictures. I noticed a rattle from under the gear shift lever and tried to troubleshoot it. So far I think I eliminated the t cases, axles and trans... I'm starting to wonder if it's just some loose hardware in my triple stick linkage. More to come.
