we have about the same here in ohio. really, i need something to do. mountain biking is getting old and painful and there really isnt a whole lot to do around here, plus body parts are not really liking me too much (im only 19... my knees are going bad already...arthritis along with some other crap going on in them. ) im saving up the money slowly so i dont have to take a loan out or anything i can just lay the cash down. i really honestly dont have anything i need. im starting cheap (some what) so im gonna loose maybe 1200 max. might sound stupid but i need to keep myself occupied.

HBMurphy.... you pretty much hit it dead on. thats why im hesitant on getting a bike.

    None.... ....Yet!
Go for a dual sport bike. They are generally cheaper and you can use them on trails. No cars on trails. If your on this forum I would think the possibility exists that you like going off road. I've got a Triumph street bike right now, if I were to do it again it would definitely be something I could take off road.

unfortunately, there arent really any trails around here that i can ride on. they are all pretty much private property and dont lead anywhere. plus if i were to get a bike, it would be a cruiser just because i like the looks and i know i would get myself into trouble on a sport bike if i didnt kill myself first.

Fully synthetic oil change on mine just cost me $48, and i did it myself!

I say a bike...but again I had a bike and they are fun. You can take them out at anytime where was a doo you would need to find the water. Either way is a win win situation.

seadoos and boats are fun and chicks do dig boats but you can ride a bike right outside your door with a boat you need water. Still both are fun

Get a bike. Less to maintain, easier to use because you just have to pull it out of your garage to use it.

I think you should get a small boat or maybe a jet boat if you really want the manuverability of a ski.

Careful of the 10 year old seadoos. From what I've read they don't hold up too well. If you do get a doo stay away from the 951 motor.

I suggest yamaha for a ski.

I LOVE my motorcycle. And I'll be getting a JetSki (well..two) in the next few months. The wife wants something to do...

So I vote both...but I'd go with the bike first.

I rode a old motorcycle for 7 years. Tons of fun and if you get a Yamaha or Honda, they hardly ever need any work. But... I'd probably go with a boat because there's less chance of getting killed. I gave up riding simply because most people driving cars have little respect for motorcyclists or they don't even see them. Way too many near-death experiences for me. I was a pretty careful non-crazy driver too.

Why have I always heard the statement that there are only two good days in a boat owners life; The day he buys it and the day he sells it.

Im not sure, this is just what I keep hearing from others. Maybe its the Bring Out Another Thousand syndrome.

I own a Jetski but as others have said. Its a lot of fun by yourself but you almost need 2 skis to have fun with other riders.

I think the reason that statement is so prevalent is because most people I know who buy Boats, RVs, Motorbikes, and other toys get them and use them for a year or so then park them for years before finally selling them. My parents used to buy new campers every 4-5 years. The reason was because they kept buying bigger and bigger campers, which meant they were difficult to maneuver and haul. Thus taking them out was kind of a chore- hence they sat most of the year. Then they bought a small camper and use it all the time.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
would something like this fit the bill? inbetween a ski and a boat. i see these all the time on the river and they look fun as hell. under 1500lbs, so towing wouldn't be an issue. boating is a great time. my family spent all our summer weekends down on the river when i was growing up. i'm starting to miss it these days, and have looked at these boats trying to convince myself i need one.

skip the bike IMO...they let anyone drive a car these days. i knew two people who lost their lives on bikes...and they both were very experienced riders.

Bike. It can be used almost as much as your car. It's not a toy, it's a viable form of transportation. If it's a toy to you...get the jetski. We already have too many noobs that don't belong on a bike.

Riding a bike is one of most rewarding experiences you can have. You are enveloped into your surroundings much more than you are in a cage. Senses heightened...ahhhhhhhhhhhh, nothing like a long motorcycle trip to clear your head of daily bs.

For those that are playing the "safe" card...sad that you will end up on deaths doorstep (we all end up there ya know) anyway. Life is way too short to end up being 60 and saying "coulda, woulda, shoulda". We don't know when our lives are up (but when it IS your day, it don't matter what you are doing), until then, live every day to the fullest.

that's your own fault for paying that much for oil.;) You don't HAVE to spend that kind of coin. Change it regularly, and ride it. These aren't old 70's technology motors or oil...

Sounds like the three idiots street racing are just proving Darwin correct. Hardly a reason to stop riding unless you lump yourself into the way the idiots ride. Car accidents happen as well, and put the occupants in the hospital as well. I'm sure there is more to the story of your buddy...

How'd you end up in the guardrail?

damn this is not easy.... im leaning more toward the ski/small boat. maybe a small boat more.. that way i can have more than one other person. hmm... what should i look out for when im looking at an older boat? hull damage? im new at the boat owner thing so any info on that would be great. i rent skis every year in florida and elsewhere i can rent and i have captained (i guess thats the word for it) a 20 foot speed boat so im not new at that part of it.

How old of a boat? If older than a couple of years maybe have a compression check on all cylinders. If you're going to spend alot then maybe a professional should look it over or a buddy that's knows alot about mechanics.

I think you are going the right way if you want to enjoy it with family.

You may even be able to get one for cheap with a seazed motor and buy a rebuilt motor from sbt and drop it in there and have a warrantied motor. just a thought.
