What are those small cubby holes in the sides of the bed used for? Whats the reasoning they are there? What do you guys use them for?

Yep, during Summer when I tend to haul more stuff ... ATV etc, I keep my ratchet straps in them. Sometimes with a few bungee straps. Just to have them handy versus somewhere in the cab.

Just looked... there's a key ring and a bungee in mine. Pretty much keep anything you wouldn't miss. You could wire bed lights in them: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/22753-how-wire-bed-lamps.html

13?!? My 2011 AC (auto) only has 9 :pout:

My kids and nephews throw toys in there when they are jumping around back there.

There is a thread floating around here somewhere where they put speakers there. Which I liked the idea of, and if I ever get a chance, I just might do that.

Some people have put in speakers, lights etc. Most people use them for storage though. When I owned my 11' I just put bungie cords in them. Now with my 13' they don't have them in their anymore. They're good if you have them but you aren't going to miss them if you don't.

Storage. Some people put locks on them and put more valuable stuff.

You and some others I believe are thinking of the ones close to the tailgate. I'm pretty sure OP is talking about the small ones towards the front of the bed. Mine are above my wheel wells in my short bed. I think they stopped putting those in for 2012, but I'm not sure.

The OP is talking about just the cubbies, not the ones that are close to the tailgate. They did stop putting them in 2012, my 2013 doesn't have them.

    Build thread coming soon!
My 12 has them. But maybe because it's a 5' bed?

My 2013 DCSB has two. I keep bungee cords and ratcheting straps in them.

Interesting. Wonder why they don't put them in only the long beds anymore.

Yep the small ones towards the front. Thanks bud for bringing the rears up cause someone stole one of mine. I'm missing the larger side closeable cubby cover thing. Do you know where to get a replacement?

Just keep my eyes open for another TRD sport hehehe j/k:D
