    Finally had a break in the action and here is the photo of the bench. I will probably talk to a member down in Waldorf about fabricating some straps and bracket out of 1/4 in steel on Thursday.

    Keep the boards aligned and provide some support. There was no vertical bracket on this bench just one thin horizontal strap made out of cheap tin. I plan on 2 made out of 1/4 in steel.

    The other bench had two cheap vertical brackets which I plan on replacing with 1/4 in thick and 1 in wide brackets. Also plan on having 2 1/4 in thick steel straps that the brackets will attach to. Should improve the longevity of the bench for quite a while.

    I knew it would look good Adam. The cherry stain and gloss black paint makes it a knockout. The big plus is the heft of the metal ironwork and the solid weight bearing properties of white oak. It was nice to work with wood and metal again. It has been far too long.

    I am not bragging it is just I can visualize the final product before I start the project and I knew the color combination will look good and compliment the church building very well. One parishioner on the Buildings and Grounds committee wanted me to stain the wood charcoal. It would just look like a black blob if I did that. ;)
