    This is true.
However, it's only because they saw the writing on the wall about the coming recession and leveraged every piece of property they owned to stay afloat back during the real estate peak in 2006. They had something like $24 Billion in cash that they burned through during the recession.

I remember reading about it in Car & Driver back when they first did and thinking "what the hell is Ford doing? Are they getting ready to go under?"
Little did I know that they saw what was coming.

Well I guess I'm gonna have to be the dick to point out the Taco's faults. I've been a Ford guy forever, not one of those closed minded 'rather push a chevy than drive a ford' idiots, but have never wanted a chevy. After many ford trucks and cars I recently acquired my first Taco. It has been an absolute friggin' nightmare of a truck. I do all my own maintenance, repairs, modifications so I know my way around a vehicle very well. I actually enjoy maintaining and bettering my stuff. Being that I inherited the truck from my dad and it was the only new vehicle he'd bought himself I'm extra inclined to want to keep it tip-top. I immediately added cruise control, changed the oil, and detailed it...that's when the nightmare started. So I set a whole day aside to just do stuff on the truck, it's 6 years old so there's gonna be a ton of tinkering to do. I started out by putting it up on stands so I could get all around it top to bottom. Rotated the tires, cleaned and inspected the brakes, checked everything I could and found myself staring at it for a little while longer. I couldn't find anything else to do to it.....drove me fucking insane! After pulling all my hair out and developing a twitch I called the suicide prevention hotline. When they hung up on me I was really starting to loose it, those fucking bastards have no sensitivity for wrenchaholics! Finally, just shy of putting a screwdriver to my head, I turned to my trusty Ford van and spent the next two days wrenching; all was good again.

Keep the ford, do the timing chain shit, drill out the spark plugs, rebuild the trans, etc.......and keep your sanity!

You made my day with this.
I was raised a Ford guy myself. I used to be the kid that would scream at everything that wasn't a Ford that came down my street. "Stupid Dodge! Go die! Piece of shit Chevy, go suck it!" I even uttered the unthinkable on many occasions: "Evil Toyota! Ford Rules!" :anonymous:
But then I saw my neighbor's F-150 blow up just sitting in front of his house. Whole truck and trailer went up in flames within minutes. I still have pieces of it somewhere. And then my first car, a 90 Mustang 2.3L fastback named Pete Longstreet blew up too, on the interstate.

After those experiences, among many other things, I kind of shied away from Fords. Not to say that I hate them, or anything. But I now feel that Toyota makes a far more reliable vehicle. And I haven't seen one blow up yet. :D

I switched from Ford to Toyota. Had a 2005 and 2010 FX4. Sold the 2010 and bought a 2001 DC taco. Liked it but didn't love it. To many miles and missed the new feeling. Got my 13 a few months later. The taco has some very annoying traits. When the ac is on it feels like I get bumped from behind when at a stop light. The steering wheel has a shake on really rough roads where I can feel every rock.

My ford felt solid and I had no problems with either one. No complaints besides re sale value. Even though my taco has some qualities I don't like, I'm glad I bought it. Power is good, off roading is fun, and these trucks are sexy and fun to drive. Not to mention they hold there value. Plus all the compliments I get offsets the minor problems. Good luck.

Sounds like your Mustang would have been more aptly named "Benjamin Butler" or "Gideon Pillow" rather than "Pete Longstreet.

I remember as a kid (long time ago) we called Toyotas rice burners and thought it in just a matter of a few years all jap cars would be extinct. Boy was we wrong. My dad, brothers and brother n law and uncle worked for GM if you didn't drive a gm vehicle you were considered adopted. They just believed if someone gave you a paycheck then you should support them. Made them mad as hornets when guys would drive these "rice burners" to work their double shift and XXX time on Sunday's.

Ha ha, Gideon probably was a better name for it. I wouldn't name him after Beast Butler though- I'm no yankee. :D
