This is a question for a Toyota technician.
I'm looking to replace the stock dual horn with a a 4-note 80's Cadillac 4 horn set. My horn fuse is currently rated at 10A. The new horn set may draw up to 20A. I'm considering just replacing the stock 10A horn fuse with a 20A or 30A fuse to sustain the current drawn by new horns. But before I do that I want to ensure everything else in the circuit is strong enough.

    - What is the amperage of the stock horn relay?
    - What is the gauge rating of the stock horn harness?

Careful with doing that. The wiring might only be up to holding 10A too. I'm glad your doing the research and sorry I'm no help.

Because, in all practicality, if/when I have to use my horn in an emergency situation my instinct will be to push on the factory horn button located on the steering wheel column.

you could use a relay and just make the old horn your momentary switch. that way no overload and no old horn.

The wiring is not really designed to handle that much current at 100% safety. My recommendation is to use a relay type installation where the factory horn positive wire controls the relay. This way you can use a larger gauge wire, with a 20A fuse to power the horns. It is the safest way.

Thanks. Do you know how many amps a Cadillac/GM horn normally draws?
    Edit: found answer: 22.5Amps: http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159387

So in that case you really should get yourself set up with a relay and a 30 amp circuit.

This thread got me thinking. I've owned my truck 2 years and 1 day as of today and I really don't even know if my horn works. I don't think I've never heard or used it.

I used mine the other day. It sounds like a truck horn. I liked it.

In my case it was a single note horn, and I installed a relay with a fused power source.

I have NO idea which note it is. It was a spare horn that I had left over from when I was working for Cadillac.

I'm looking for something that can be alert distracted drivers a little better in traffic. Had a louder horn on a previous vehicle and it sure saved my bacon a few times.
It doesn't have to be obnoxiously loud, just a tad louder than other horns.

I installed mine because the factory horn on the older 1st gen sounds like Roadrunner from the Disney cartoons. lol. This horn sounds like a truck!
