Hello all. Please don't beat me with a stick if this has been covered as I cannot find info on my problem anywhere. I have a new to me 07 double cab 4x4 trd off road package. It has 126k miles currently. The truck has been great for the 2 months I've had it except I've had problems with the lights not turning off. I usually leave the lights in the auto position and I finally realized that if I remove the key then open door the lights shut off. If I however open the door before the key is out the lights will stay on indefinitely. I do have aftermarket hids but I do not suspect them to be the problem. Any wisdom is appreciated.

Mine does this too. I just get in the habit of turning them off when I get out.

    I have a 07 4x4 base model though so I don't know if there is a difference

Well at least I'm not the only 1 but I'd like to figure this out asap as I've almost stranded myself already.

The headlights are not "automatic" so to speak. It's just on or off. But it is designed so if you'd like to leave them in the on position to use as a daytime running light, then you can. But again its just an on or off thing. For instance if your truck is off and you turn on your headlights, they will stay on till you turn them off again.

If you want to leave them on just get in the habit of turning the truck off then open your door. Or turn off switch.

Yeah, I had automatic headlights in ny car I had before my Tacoma. It was nice to never have to worry about that. I don't mind turning mine on or off now.

At night when I'm out and about I leave the switch on. But I always turn the key off then open the door so its never bothered me.
