The Florida kinda, sorta, somewhat, semi annual Citrus meet.

I was there a couple weeks ago. And depending on what you opt to drive into, it's plenty bad enough to stick you. I got stuck there like three times. Granted, it was in mud holes, but still. If you're not getting stuck, then you're not wheeling hard enough.

Anyway, I was just teasing about the buddy system.

Haha yea i figured, i wanted to change it anyway since i traded my 2010 for the 2013. So the name wasn't cutting it.

 

Yea I agree.

Granted that video had a lot of mud but come the beginning of the year, you rarely find much mud out there except for a few spots here and there. I enjoy the articulation trials out there the most and the sandy challenges.

 

Aren't 5100s pretty cheap?

Except at Citrus, the ruts are so deep and the center hump is so hard, you really don't have a chance unless you're running bigger than 33s.

35" mud grips and 4WD and you might have made it through the stuff I was getting hung up in. Coleson (TacoHell) would have had a good chance if he had been there. With 37s or 38s you could probably have a good chance in 2WD if your tread was aggressive enough.

Ground clearance does make a huge difference though...all else being equal.

 

Well then I guess that with my 32" BFG AT's & LSD 2WD I'll choose carefully where I drive. Getting stuck sucks but damaging my truck is sucks x 100!

 

How bout we just stop all this 2wd/4wd bs talk in here. I don't want you guys scaring away or intimidating the guys that are 2wd and have never wheeled before. Citrus is great for 2&4 wd trucks. As the driver you choose where you go or what you attempt to do with your truck. So let's give it a rest for now. Thanks.

 

Citrus is mostly sandy trails yes there is mud but you can maneuver around it easily so 2wd will do perfectly fine

 

Citrus has multiple bottomless quicksand style pits that are known to swallow 2wd's whole. Last meet I think we lost 3 2wd trucks and we never saw them again. RIP brothers

That's interesting, cause the way I remember it, there was 1 4wd that had to get towed 100 miles back to my shop.........I don't recall any 2wds having many issues other than Greg assaulting that poor tree with his back bumper.

Okay, yeah, I drove around Citrus in 2WD. Only time I put it in 4 was for the mud and the climbing section seen in the vid. There's plenty to do at Citrus in 2WD. It's as challenging as you want to make it. Like Jason says, it's up to the driver what he or she chooses to attempt and the nasty spots can be circumnavigated if you don't want to try them.

Further, I don't really see how you could break your truck out there, short of running into a tree 'cuz you were going too fast or not paying attention. And getting stuck? Big deal. It ain't as bad as all that. There's plenty of people there to give you a tug if need be. Getting stuck by yourself sucks hugely. Getting stuck when there's 16 other trucks there backing you up is just part of the fun and means you're testing your limitations. It's not wheelin' if there's no uncertainty that you can make it from point A to point B. Otherwise, you might as well be driving on the pavement.

For this factor I will apologize to the 2WD crew...Things that are challenging for a 2WD are generally pretty tame for a 4WD. I've owned exactly one 2WD truck in my life and it was a support vehicle for a 4WD truck on 44"s, so I have a hard time understanding the draw of wheeling a 2WD unless it's something like desert racing or something. So I apologize is I seem a little dismissive of what the 2WDs are capable of or am unable to judge what might be fun for 2WDs. My entire paradigm is based on what's challenging--thus fun--for a 4WD.

Lest anyone take my little digs on 2WDs needing to be shepherded like a flock of helpless sheep by 4WDs too seriously (coughjasoncough), I'll say it again, I was only teasing and it was all in fun.

There. Hows that for motivating and reassuring the inexperienced guys?

 

Of course, 4WD guys aren't immune from that last part either...

 

I have a perfectly fine sense if humor and will make diggs when I see fit just as well as anyone else. My concern is that the guys who haven't wheeled yet will read what you guys were posting and freak out and say they aren't coming. If I had read that when it was my first time I likely wouldn't have showed up.

And Jim, if that quarter panel comment was directed at my truck, that happened near my house, I have yet to get damage at citrus. Knock on wood.
